107 Boston College -8
at Pittsburgh
2003 L 13 - 24
PAST
The game was played just after BC had won their fifth game of the season by beating Notre Dame on their home field. A halfback-option TD pass to Larry Fitzgerald was the game's big play.
In their prior trip to BC, Pitt had suffered a 45-7 loss, their worst defeat during coach Walt Harris' tenure. ''It is exciting to sit in this room, to be in that locker room with the memory I have from the last time we were here,'' he said after the win.
Boston College star RB Derrick Knight could have finished with an even higher total than his 119 yards on 19 carries, but he had a 41-yard TD called back on a penalty that would have put BC up 20-17. BC starting QB was Quentin Porter.
PRESENT
Instead of being off Notre Dame, Boston College is off a bye week. The Pittsburgh offense cannot move the football very well in the wake of all the playmakers they lost from last season's team. QB Tyler Palko is inexperienced and not a threat to run when the receivers are covered or he is under pressure. Pitt averages only 14 first downs per game vs. Division 1A opponents, vs. BC's 20. Boston College comes off a bye week, and has been working several running backs into the mix of a very strong ground game that should control this outing from start to finish, while their defensive line harrasses Palko's comeback attempts. BC starting QB will be Paul Peterson, who has replaced Porter.
