Wisconsin vs Northwestern

Wisconsin vs Northwestern

James is definately out the other Defensive end Cooper is questionable. Davis has an injury to his thigh don't know his playing status either as he sat out late different running game with him out. Northwestern always plays the Badgers tough. Northwestern extra week to prepare. Badger offense may not score enough to cover. Will keep everyone updated with the Badger injuries this week. As everyone could see Saturday the Boilermakers didn't move the ball at all until the d-line got hurt. Wisconsin has just played Purdue and Ohio State on the road. Just don't think the Badgers have much left in the tank. Usually don't bet against Wisconsin being a Badger fan but this does look like a good spot for the Wildcats.

Today's top story ... Erasmus James out this week
Senior standout DE Erasmus James will miss this Saturday?s game versus Northwestern after suffering an ankle injury during the Badgers? victory over Purdue this past weekend; The Badgers have a bye week following the Northwestern game, which will allow James extra time to heal the injury ?

ACC

Florida State
Senior QB Chris Rix appears to have fully recovered from his ankle sprain injury, but sophomore QB Wyatt Sexton will continue to be the team?s starter, according to head coach Bobby Bowden ?

Maryland
With neither QB playing particularly well during this past weekend?s loss to N.C. State, head coach Ralph Friedgen has declared that the battle at the QB spot is a deadlock; Sophomore Joel Statham and true freshman Jordan Steffy will compete in practice this week for the right to start Saturday?s game at Clemson

Big XII

Colorado
After losing his starting job last week, junior QB Joel Klatt performed well coming off the bench during this past weekend?s victory over Iowa State, and appears to have regained the starting role heading into preparation for Saturday game at Texas A&M ? Click here for more on this story ? Senior starting tailback Bobby Purify aggravated a left shoulder sprain during Saturday?s game and is questionable for the Texas A&M contest

Mountain West

Colorado State
Junior starting QB Justin Holland suffered a broken fibula during the first quarter of this past weekend?s game at San Diego State, and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season; True freshman Caleb Hanie rallied the Rams to a 21-17 victory, and will assume the starting role for Friday night?s game versus Wyoming

Pac-10

Washington
Sophomore Isaiah Stanback will get the start at QB for Saturday?s game at USC; Stanback came off the bench to play the final three quarters of this past weekend?s loss to Oregon State; Junior QB Casey Paus (ankle) and redshirt freshman Carl Bonnell (groin) are both sidelined due to injury

INJURIES OF NOTE - While not an injury, it?s interesting to note that Buffalo reinstated QB PJ Piskorik vs Miami after missing 2 games. BUF actually led MIA 7-6 despite missing short 34 and 26 yd FG?s during the game but still covered in a 25-7 loss...

N Carolina lost six players during the Utah game including starting QB Durant and TB Lewis. Durant went out in the 2Q and Lewis was inj?d on the first play of the game. Utah finished with a 669-221 yd edge and after only leading by 21 after 3Q?s, scored the game?s final 9 pts...

Wisconsin did manage to upset Purdue 20-17 but might have won more comfortably if not for injuries. In the 1H their D-line, which features 3 future NFL?ers, held the Boilermakers to 122 yds offense and DE James had 2 sks and countless pressures, forced an int and caused a fumble. Unfortunately, James hurt his left ankle in the 3Q. Their other starting DE, Jonathan Welsh (who was having a great game), was also injured and then DT Hawthorne went down to injury early 3Q, so UW was without their top 3 DL?s for almost the entire 2H and that?s when PU?s offense came to life...

Alabama lost star RB Ray Hudson for the season but Kenneth Darby (PS#36) filled in with 197 yds rushing on 29 carries (6.8). S Miss actually came in ranked #24 in the country and were unbeaten but their D was allowing 4.6 ypc. SM was without starting QB Dustin Almond and Damion Carter hit just 5 of 20 for 16 yds.

MISLEADING FINALS, FRONTDOOR AND BACKDOOR COVERS - BYU had a 406-322 yd edge but only led 17-13 when they took over with 6:39 left on their own 17. They went on an 83 yd, 12 play drive and on 3rd & 1 Tahi broke off a 15 yd run for a TD with 2:06 left and the frontdoor cover. Wyoming did get to the BYU 40 but with :16 left was int?d at the 35...

California led UCLA 35-14 but the Bruins got a 43 yd TD pass with 6:42 left for the apparent backdoor cover. Cal drove for a 28 yd FG to get back ahead of the spread with 4:00 left. UCLA got a 46 yd TD pass with 2:39 left to once again get the backdoor cover. Cal rec?d the onside kick and ran the ball 3 times and JJ Arrington warmed many Bear hearts when he ripped off consecutive runs of 23 and 9 yds, the latter for a TD with 1:30 left to give Cal the frontdoor cover. The game was played before 68,898 the largest Cal crowd for any game not featuring Stanford since 1991...

Iowa St had a 403-304 yd edge vs Colorado but poor special teams hurt them as they muffed 2 punts, missed 2 short FG?s and failed on 5 trips inside the CU 20. The Cyclones have scored just 7 times (5 TD?s, 2 FG?s) on 21 chances in the redzone this season. ISU missed a pair of 25 yd FG?s and Colorado K Grosby made FG's from 60 & 54 yds.

MORE COMFORTABLE THAN THE SCORE INDICATES - There were numerous games this past weekend where teams jumped out to big leads and coasted. Auburn led Arkansas 30-0 before giving up a TD with 1:06 left in the 1H. They were running out the clock late but were int?d & ret?d 45 yds to the 20 and Arkansas got a TD with 3:39 left to turn a blowout into a semi-respectable 38-20 loss and made Auburn backers were uncomfortable until the Tigers rec?d the onside kick and got 2 FD?s running out the clock...

Oregon led Arizona 28-0 with 5:06 left in the game. Arizona ret?d the KO to the 49 and would not only get a TD with 2:00 left, they rec?d the onside kick and got a 2nd garbage TD with 1:16 left. UO rec?d the onside kick but won more comfortably than the final score and during the game UO was SOD at the UA 15 and fmbl?d at the UA 2, blowing 2 scoring opportunities...Toledo had a 28-14 FD edge vs Ohio and 400-230 yd edge. They also led the game 31-5 but gave up a safety and a 4Q TD plus Toledo was SOD at the OU 4 yd line with 3:45 left in a game much easier than their 31-13 final would indicate.

Regarding Bama-UT:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1904762

UT will be without starting safety Brandon Johnson who was supsended for firing a gun into the air. He had 2 ints against Ole Miss last week.

Also one of UT's best defensive lineman, Jesse Mahelona, likely will not be able to play against Bama. He sprained a knee against OM.

As for Bama Juwan Garth ( startingLB) who was out last week could miss the UT game along with Justin Britt (DL). Justin is a reserve DL that is in the playing rotation. Last week Garth's spot was filled by Demarcus Waldrop and Freddie Roach.

Just wanted to let you know about Johnson in particular and the others that I know about.

Gardenweasel,

I got lucky last week and cashed on Duke against GT but they were absolutely trashed all over the field. GT could of won that game by 40 points but couldnt consistently put the ball in the end zone.

Tulah,

When I first saw that line on ND I thought it was too low but BC is a tough team to figure.

Today's top story ... Arkansas star QB hurt
Senior star QB Matt Jones is questionable for Saturday night’s home game versus Georgia; Jones suffered a groin injury during the first play in this past weekend’s loss at Auburn; Jones played nearly the whole game, but was unable to practice on Sunday and will be rested until Wednesday, at the earliest; Redshirt freshman Robert Johnson will get the snaps with the No. 1 offense this week until Jones is able to return

Big East

Rutgers
Three players were injured during an automobile accident on Saturday night; Junior backup DB Dondre Asberry was the most seriously injured, as he suffered a spine fracture and head injuries; Fellow backup DB’s Manny Collins and Eddie Grimes suffered head and facial injuries and were released from the hospital; The driver of the other car has been charged with a DWI and reckless driving

Big Ten

Illinois
Sophomore starting RB E.B. Halsey is expected to return to action for this weekend’s game at Minnesota; Halsey missed last weekend’s loss to Michigan, due to a strained MCL Head coach Ron Turner has decided to bench senior QB Jon Beutjer; Turner indicated that either redshirt freshman Brad Bower, sophomore Tim Brasic, or sophomore Chris Pazan would be the new starter, but a decision is not expected until later in the week

Pac-10

Arizona
Redshirt freshman Richard Kovalcheck will make his first career start on Saturday versus Cal; Head coach Bob Stoops is making an effort to jump start the Cats’ stagnant offense, and will allow Kovalcheck to play at least the first half of Saturday’s game; Previous starter Kris Heavner will take over the top backup duties

Washington State
Sophomore starting QB Josh Swogger will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken bone in his right foot during the Cougs’ loss to Stanford this past weekend; Redshirt freshman Alex Brink becomes the team’s new starter

Tennessee
Junior starting SS Brandon Johnson has been suspended indefinitely after being arrested for firing a handgun into the air outside of an apartment complex; Johnson will remain suspended pending an investigation by the athletics department … Head coach Phillip Fulmer also announced that fellow junior safety Chris Heath, who was on medical scholarship this season, has been dismissed from the team; Heath was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm

Anyone considering playing the Ohio State and Indiana game just a FYI, Justin Zwick is out of the game for OSU as he has a separated shoulder and will be out at minimum 3 weeks and possibly all season. At this point Troy Smith is a better fit for the OSU offense due to the piss poor play of the offensive line as this line may very well be the worst in the Big 10. Smith should be able to use his wheels to create and get outside the pocket but he is quite erratic and very streaky when he is forced into passing situations. If Smith goes down Todd Boeckman a Frosh will have to play and he is a pure drop back passer similar to Zwick and will take a beating behind that line!

Well!
DiNardo might have a slim chance of winning outright but i doubt...BUT looks like he'll cover a 14 point spread

Ohio State has not been a good covering team thru out the years.

I'll Pass on this game..look elsewhere

I think Indiana has a chance to win this game and should definitely cover the spread. I hate to say this as a buckeye fan, but they suck. Do you think they have better chances with Smith at the helm?

Golfstud I really don't have a clue.

But a thought

might ...play Indiana 1st half..it doesn't appear they have the defensive depth in the late 3rd and 4th quarter.

Your lean on UL Monroe might have some meat on it's bones.

Fla Atlantic caught Vegas lines maker with their pants up in a wedgie for 1st 3 games they played..beat Hawai in the 4th quarter...this team is 5-0 and has a damn good power rating vs Ul Monroe. The last 2 games Fla Atl didn't cover and i think vegas went overboard as 14 point favorite.

Ul Monroe has a powerful strength of schedule vs Fla Atl and i think this may be the edge for the cover

I'm Off of Texas Tech...even with Texas QB problem

Fresno state....

Call the Fresno State football team whatever you please ? 11-point underdog, last-place team in the Western Athletic Conference, an October bust.

Just don't call the Bulldogs a "spoiler" when they play Saturday at No.19 Boise State on ESPN2, coach Pat Hill said Monday at his weekly news conference.

"I don't look at this as a game for us to spoil anything," Hill said. "I'm looking for us to get back on track with a win. This can be a very big win for us.

"It's not really about them. We know what they are. We've got to find out what we are."

Eight weeks into the season, the Bulldogs still are having an identity crisis. Season-opening victories at Washington and Kansas State look less impressive with each passing week ? the teams are a combined 3-9. The Bulldogs need to figure out if they are as good as the team that whipped Kansas State 45-21 or as bad as the team that lost at home to Texas-El Paso 24-21.

Expect a cut-and-dry answer against Boise State, the best team the Bulldogs will face this season.

The Broncos are No.14 in the Bowl Championship Series rankings, which were released Monday. Any team in the top 12 is considered for one of two at-large berths in a BCS bowl game.

Fresno State is 0-2 in the WAC, a loser of two straight games and desperately in need of its first victory in 35 days. It needs to keep winning just to stay in the hunt for the Silicon Valley Football Classic.

"It comes at a great time," Hill said. "We've hit a down time. It's a great chance to get us restarted again. This is the week we've got to do it."

The matchup has a familiar ring to it, albeit with the roles reversed.

In 2001, the Bulldogs were 6-0 and nationally ranked heading into a home game televised by ESPN. The Broncos arrived 3-3 and struggling to establish an identity.

Boise State stunned Fresno State 35-30 to end all talk of a BCS season.

Sound like added incentive for the Bulldogs? Not if you ask Hill.

"It's not about beating Boise," Hill said. "It's about us winning. I'm not happy with our situation. Ever since the second half of the Portland State game, it's been a grind. Right now, what this football team needs is a win."

Pull it off Saturday, and all sorts of streaks end.

Boise State has won 17straight games, 21straight conference games and 22straight home games, all best in the nation.

The Broncos are 3-0 against the Bulldogs since joining the WAC in 2001.

"All I know is, in their last 33 games, they've won 31," Hill said. "They've won close games. They've won blowouts. The bottom line is they win."

=================

Mathis hobbling

Fresno State running back Wendell Mathis still is troubled by a rib injury and might not play at Boise State.

Bryson Sumlin is expected to start for the second straight game. Mathis was injured at Louisiana Tech and again before the UTEP game.

"In a game as hot as this one's going to be, you've got to be practicing and get your reps," Hill said. "He won't play unless he's ready to go."

Sumlin ran for a career-high 160 yards on 26 carries against UTEP. The junior leads the team with 417 rushing yards.

Golfstud,

Although I have not whittled my list of plays down to a manageable list in reference to your question, yes I feel OSU will have a better chance to win with Smith as the starting QB. As poor as the O-Line is he differs from Zwick in the fact that he creates a dilemma for defenses with his ability to scramble and improvise on plays when they break down. Although Zwick did use his wheels this year to scramble and pick up yards it is not his strength as he works best when he is allowed to sit in the pocket and scan the field. One thing to keep in mind here even as poor as OSU defense has looked in the past few games they still match-up with Indiana quite well and I feel much of the problems with OSU defense can be traced to the amount of time they have spent on the field as they have been on the field for nearly 65% of the snaps per game this year.
