I know several will be on Michigan and I'm a Wolverine fan as well but I just don't understand the line. Sure Ohio State and Michigan is a huge rivalry and many times one spoils the other's season (usually Michigan) but what is Ohio State bringing to the table this year? They had a lot more going for them last season and look what happened. I think a true line here is Michigan -6.5 or 7.

Like Ohio State as well. I will take Tressel at home vs Carr's road fav record and two 18-year olds any day.

gman2 - what's your take on the Akron-Miami side? Leaning towards the Zips at home......

miami redhawks at akron zips (6:00pm EST)
===============================
im amazed the total is this high in this game. really figured it would be 52ish, maybe 53.... but 56 (and now 57) is damn high. this one's for the mac east championship, and (at least in my opinion) theres no way akron can win getting into a shootout with miami. the zips are playing great football right now, but miami outclasses them at pretty much every position except quarterback. i think miami is going to attack akron on the ground. redhawks have been a run-first team in recent weeks and i dont see that changing against a less than imposing akron run defense. i just really think akron is going to be conservative in their first shot at a mac east title. i think theyre going to try and manage the game try to keep it close heading into the 4th qtr. as for the side in this game, flip a coin. miami holds a significant class edge, but akron is playing as well as theyve played in a looooong time. zips did a great job of winning out to set up this big showdown. do they have one more huge effort left in 'em? im not so sure they do, but betting against 'em doesnt appeal to me either.

incidentally, the following numbers really reflect well on akron. one pretty significant stat that makes me leery of laying the road chalk: the turnover department. miami is -7 on the season. akron is +5. the zips do the little things right -- theyre 1st in the conference in punt return yardage. 1st in the conference in kickoff return yardage. they avg. < 47 yards in penalties a game. theyve converted 62% of their 4th down tries.

i guess it all depends what your approach is. if youre backing miami, youre betting a team that is absolutely superior talent-wise and has a lot more playmakers. redhawks are capable of winning this game by 14-17 points. if youre backing akron, youre betting a team who doesnt beat themselves, and doesnt make a lot of careless mistakes, thus allowing them to stay in most games. and youre also betting a confident team playing pretty damn solid football. to me, miami is just a lot better, but akron holds too many edges in the little departments for me to feel comfortable laying the chalk. plus, frye has solid career numbers against the redhawks. a definite pass on the side, but really like the under here

ball state cardinals at central michigan chippewas (1:00pm EST)
===============================
ball state is garbage on the road. check that -- ball state is garbage period. their two wins this year have been against central florida and western michigan -- who happen to be a combined 1-19 this year. the only thing i like about bsu is their young qb. he's not bad. but they are awful aside from him. cmich is coming off the most embarrassing loss possible - a 36-6 loss to buffalo. bsu wasnt even remotely competitive facing bg's and toledo's spread sets. cmu should cause equal amounts of problems. the bsu defense is as lame as youll find anywhere in the country. theyre allowing 460ypg in conference play (amazingly, thats not worst in the mac. that dubious honor goes to wmu, who is allowing 485ypg). chips obviously dont have the personnel that those two have, but bsu wont stop it regardless. seymour has struggled the last few weeks finding holes and rushing yardage, but the bsu run defense is a sieve and he should get back to his usual 100+yard afternoon. cmu made some progress this year, and i cant see any way they throw it all away by allowing a shit ball state team to come in and win.

byu cougars at utah utes (7:00pm EST)

rivalry? yep. mismatch? yep, that too. not going to get too thorough with this one. meyer has been a cash machine every time ive bet him at bg and now utah. even though ive steered cleer of the utes lately, im willing to take a shot here now that theyre back in the bcs picture and would love to lay it on thick against their rivals. not a huge fan of this kind of chalk, but have no problem laying it with one of the hottest teams in the country.

Good luck this weekend Gman! I was looking at that Akron game, I was thinking about taking the Zips and the points. IMO I don't think the Miami offense is where it should be this late in the year. I'm not high on Akron but they do have the home field advantage and it looks to me like this game will be more offensive than defensive. Your post was right on the money, I think Akron won't beat themselves like Toledo did when they played the redhawks.
Good luck with the other plays! just my 2 cents.

Cheers

Any concern or already factored in
CENTRAL MICHIGAN...Soph Damien Linson (shoulder), Chips' top WR, starting sr. TE Dave Kurzen (ankle), and starting soph DE Mike Ogle (knee) DNP in last week's 36-6 loss at Buffalo after each suffered a season-ending injury in prior week's quadruple-OT loss to rival E. Michigan. Starting jr. RG Jeff Jenerou left in 1st Q vs. Bulls after hurting his knee, and starting soph LG Drew Mormino (foot) was lost for season earlier in campaign. Sr. OLB James King, CMU's top defender, sat out against Buffalo for personal reasons.

lendig:

linson got hurt a few weeks ago. thats the only loss out of those guys that really impacts the team. he was one of their more explosive guys. but theyve done a good job of getting a lot of younger guys reps this season, so that has allowed them to insert some other guys and still be effective. king should be good to go this week. all in all, im really confident cmu wins this one by 7+ points. cmu definitely better than their record; ball state every bit as bad as their record.

one more game:

===============================
louisiana tech at boise state
===============================
dont see latech having much success on the ground, as boise's run defense is top notch. the way to beat bsu is through the air, and i dont think tech can do that. not a huge boise fan by any stretch, but one thing ive learned is that they rarely have back-to-back poor efforts. their game vs san jose was embarrassing. they should atone for it and beat the shit outta latech. early in the year, i thought tech could do some things, but theyve flatlined and i think they get routed here.

michigan wolverines at ohio state buckeyes
===============================
this one has been covered from pretty much every angle on the forum this week. some of my reasons for backing osu here:

*emergence of ginn has almost forced the hand of the buckeyes offensive coaching staff. theyre calling a lot more aggressive plays, and theyre doing a much better job of opening up the offense the last few weeks. bucks offense is no longer 1.5 yds and a cloud of dust. its by no means 'good'. but its at least more aggressive.

*for as good as theyve been, not sure how the michigan offensive freshman handle their first visit to the shoe. obviously, theyve played in big road games this year, but theres something different about this game that theyve yet to experience.

*although im not a buckeye fan, i dont necessarily buy into the belief that michigan holds a talent edge here. buckeyes have all the athletes necessary to win. tressel has his recruits in the program now. i just think the michigan coaching staff has utilized their talent better than osu's coaching staff has. but talent isnt that different on each sideline.

*this rivalry just does not play true to form. its obviously cliche to say 'throw the records out', because in some rivalries, its an erroneous cliche. but not this one. michigan has ruined plenty of great ohio state seasons and vice versa.

*over the years, big players have made big plays in this matchup. desmond howard. charles woodson. eddie george. tim biakabatuka. the list goes on. very possible that someone like ginn could be next in line to change the outcome of the game.

hawaii (-20) over idaho
=======================================
ive laid more chalk in one day than i probably have the whole season, but why not try one more. some might cap this as a lookahead for the bows (as they have northwestern and mich state coming to the island the next 2 weeks) but to me, the lookahead angle goes out the window with them getting waxed every which way by fresno last friday. those two big 10 games wont be easy, so jones and co. would be wise to take this opportunity to bury an inferior foe. idaho hasnt even been competitive on the road this season, and this november trip to the island shouldnt be any different. their defense is giving up huge chunks of yards and lots of big plays in the passing game. chang is night and day on the island vs. mainland. really think this game gets ugly.

5-2 day, but didnt hit the bigger ones like a wanted to. if the central michigan retards dont get a punt blocked in their own redzone in the 4th qtr, might have been lookin at a 6-1 day. their SU win but non-cover chunked some profits away.

miami vs. toledo for the mac title at ford field if toledo beats bg on tues.

miami vs. northern illinois for the mac title at ford field if bg beats toledo on tues.

either way, mac looking at a great championship game.

bg's loss way back when to niu came back to haunt em in a big way.

It is truely unreal how the Chipps contunued to find new ways to stay outside the number nearly all season long. Still a very nice day.

Thanks to you and Big Tease, I took a closer look at Michigan's lackluster road efforts and called in a healthy play on the Bucks yesterday. Troy Smith was nothing short of outstanding, and if the bucks can find more ways of getting the ball to Ginn, there may be a heisman in his future. What a fantastic day at the shoe,the atmosphere was amazing.
