not christen their 'new kennel' with a rout? im all about dogs, but i see nothing in portland state that leads me to believe this game is going to be close. anyone see anything in the vikings? dog gets the first look in my capping, but eschewing that approach and making a small play on

gonzaga (-17.5)

new building, same zags dominance? we'll see.

CLEM,

Do you have a stat saying how many games Gonzaga covered in their first 8 or 9 last year? I just feel like they play for something that these other teams don't dream about and have to prove a point early in the season to be "noticed."

I took gonzaga at 19.5 then took them again at 17.5

Thanks Clem!

clem:

thats what im sayin. line dropped, but the movement isnt consistent with what im seeing when i cap this game. obviously, replacing stepp is no easy task, but zags program is so established now that theyve got depth galore. i might feel like an idiot 2 hrs from now, but zags have been looking for a new facility for awhile now. theyve got a state-of-the-art one now. i think they open it with a convincing win.

thanks anyway clem.

nice job with davidson..outright winner!

Both teams playing very hard at the start of Gonzaga game...lots of emotion on both sides....could lead to a second half Zags play when Port. st. runs out of steam...

It makes sense G. I liked the other way when it was 20 slightly but would not play against zags and Few.
Portland st has 4 starters back off an 11 win team. I think midseason the zag would win by 30, I just hate to lay big wood early. It takes awhile to get your shot when you are the favorite and expected to do well in my humble opinion.

I hope you guys cash here.

Zags big advantage seems to be inside. Portland isn't doubling the post. As long as there is no foul trouble, Portland will have to send another defender...should leave open the good 3 point shooters....Can the Zags stop Portland though...right now...NO!!!

Found out why the line dropped. Announcers just said that "Gonzaga is so thin tonight that 3 starters may have to play 40 minutes....) Portland being an up tempo team could move a line a few points...which it did.

don't know if others are watching the zags game but Funn (senior guard for Portland State) just got his second tech . He's done...tie score at half. Portland can't stop gonzaga....Gonzaga has turned the ballover but not really because of pressure...Gonzaga can't even slow POrtland state down...usually their shot gets off within 10 second s.

If you guys are watching the game..sorry to clutter your thread. Just thought I'd give some info.

I don't think Zags will cover either, but I feel like it may be close. Portland will not slow down. They shoot the first shot they get. Game could very easily end as a 13 or 14 pt spread...wish mybook had a half time line....

Gman...I know I'm relatively new to the scene but I used to be an assistant at a DI school. Just wanted you to know that I have an idea what I'm talking about. I really respect you, clem, box and one, and others for all the great work you all do. Thanks

up 7..can't stop turiaf...
Mallon is much improved in the middle. Much heavier and stronger. Is able to score down low. He'll be able to score enough to allow Turiaf to get his points. Their hi-low game is very good. Not sure of the depth though. Seems to be a freshman tonight that they bring in when Mallon gets in foul trouble.

can always use another basketball mind on the board. good to have you posting. zags pedigree should allow them to pull away a bit, but the original cover was lost in the first 5:00 of the game when they failed to come out with any defensive intensity. allowing 46 pts in a half to a team like port st is really alarming. kinda tells me they thought they could just show up, roll the ball out, and cruise. 2h line was gonzaga -9.5. kinda think zags win this one by 6 or 8 points. port state just doesnt seem to want to go away. gotta give em credit.

Think you're right...but right now zags up 13 shooting 1 at the line with 8:40 to go. turiaf has 31...I have no idea what the portland coach is doing. By not doubling he got his best offensive weapon his 4th foul and turiaf is killing them...

final score 98-80...almost covered the original line..I got it also at 17.5...PS, shooting 2 at the line with 3 seconds, threw an airball on teh first attempt..whew..

Gonzaga will be ok..but not as good. Raivio is good, can shoot the lights out but not as solid with the ball. Mallon is good but not as good as Violette. Should be interesting. Curious to see the lines for their next games. The announcers were really talking this guy Batista up as the 3rd big guy. That could solve some problems...I'm still not sure who their backup point guard is though.

Almost covered the 19.5....tough one to swallow.
