Senior-laden side plays home season
finale against an opponent that comes
off a final home-game win, and will be
playing for the 11th consecutive weekend.

Sample the coach's thoughts on this matter,
from Tuesday dealing with the media:

Q: You were beat up last week. Will you be
more a full strength for this game?

A: ''I don't know yet. I don't know how many
teams have played 11 straight weeks, but
I'm sure there are some.'' [Yes, there are: Ohio,
which has been losing against the spread for four
weeks now, and Minnesota, also loser of four in
a row vs. the spread.]...''It's something
that doesn't get said a lot but on behalf
of these kids there has not been an off
week. There's not been a week where we
could sit one out and try to get him well.
We have guys playing through injuries right now.
Jeff Littlejohn (310-lb. junior DT)is playing
through a tough injury. Eugene Gross (RB who
has gotten as many as 20 carries in a game)
is battling injuries. Jonathan Harris (safety),
maybe we will get him back. I don't know the status
of Darren Mustin (LB) and Jerry Vanderpool (308-lb.
senior DT) or whether we will get them back.
We lost our back-up tight end, Jason Krupinkski,
Saturday and I don't think we will have him back.

''It goes on and on this time of year...
but it says something about these guys going into
their 11th straight week playing. We will try to
get through it.'

byu+19.5

John Beck has been firmly entrenched as the #1 QB for BYU since Day 1, and has thrown 13 TD to only 8 INT. BYU has a running game this season, and Utah's DL is banged-up. Weather conditions are once again expected to be poor: Temps below freezing, with precip -- either freezing rain or snow. Utah's medium-range passing game will suffer for it and it will be hard to open up a margin.

byu under

Late-day start on a day that will begin with

temps in the high 30s, sink below freezing later,

with wet weather like snow or freezing rain very

possible. Get down now before the Yellow Linemaker

removes this from his menu!

Bronco Mendenhall, BYU defensive coordinator, will

have his guys as ready to play as they were last

season in a 3-0 snowstorm game.

The Gators have played solid football since the firing of Ron Zook was finally announced ? in many ways it had been a cloud that they had been playing under for several seasons. But the bottom line is that they are a relaxed and confident side right now, and that is exactly that attitude that we wanted to see before they take this trip. Now they can reward their coach with the best possible sendoff, a revenge win over a Seminole team that they physically out-played in Gainesville last year, but lost because of a series of questionable officiating calls. They also lost because of a rare good game from Chris Rix, but there is no such fear of that this time, with the Seminole passing game the weakest it has been in a decade (it is not just the fault of the QB?s; the receiving corps is also weak this season). Chris Leak has been playing like a senior on the road for two seasons already, and he holds a major edge over his State counterparts that shows at crunch time.
