in2..... i think that article is going so far over my head it could be a 747 :(

starting off....it says it's for XP professional. does that mean it won't work w/ home edition? next, it sounds to me as if you have to have a date set up to restore to.... if nothing has been set up would the original date be in there? my daughter has her computer SO overloaded and f'd up it's practically inoperable!!! i'd like to wipe out everything on it... is there any way to do this if i can't find the discs?

Mama,

This opinion / instructions are coming from a computer no-nuthin so use caution.

But, I do believe "System Restore" is what you're looking for to remedy your daughter's computer problems.

By using this feature, she can "restore" her computer to a date before the current problems existed.

I.e: You developed a problem / problems on 11/17. Remedy - Set the restore date for 11/16.

Voila!

Buddy and in2 ....

THANKS, anything is worth a shot, and if i destroy it, i destroy it....LOL plan on getting them laptops right after x-mas anyway

(which brings me to another thread i need to ask someone about a MILLION questions in about comcast and networking) :(

guess what i need to find is the receipt for the puter, that would tell me what date to set it for, because i think it needs to be taken back to DAY ONE!!!!!!!

Mamma..I dont believe you can go back to day 1. My brother in law messed up his computer and the farthest back he could go was 3 months. I tried it on mine and it was the same thing.

The computer automatically remembers certain points. When you get to system restore look at the calendar and the dates in bold have the checkpoints you can move the computer back to.
