IMO, HUGELY different scenario...Wake on paper LOOKED like the right pick...afterall they were ranked number one and getting points...so the board consensus that went against what looked good on paper would be less concerning...that said, we will know in about 12 hours!

I know what that usually means. Someone will make a post like this every time the board is heavy on one side.

Handicap the game, not the handicappers. Dont make things harder than they already are. People drive themselves crazy going back and forth, monitoring 5 different consensus sites and checking %'s against other %'s. Early money, late money. Gametime money versus wiseguy money. Is that a steam move? Blah blah blah.

Do you really believe the information sportsbooks put out on their volume/percentage of bets on a game is honest and straightforward? Why would a book even make those numbers available. Ask yourself from the books perspective, meaning what's in it for them to post such info? Think about that.

Take a leap of faith. Assuming that the figures sportbooks produce are genuine. Does 1 bet for $10 hold the same weight as a bet for $1,500? So 100+ twenty dollar Jimmy bets are = to one Uncle Lou two dime play? Does that contaminate the numbers and reduce validity?

I suppose so, but in the long run... who gives a damn.
Here's a fact. Most sports gamblers lose money. I think just about everyone can agree on that. So if someone could find a way to know what everyone was on as a 'public' play then they could bet against the 'squares' and make money gambling on sports without having to know the name of a single player or coach involved. Wouldn't that be a daisy? Sounds like the American way, cashing in on winners based on everyone's misery and the fact that "they're" gonna lose.

Like death and taxes, one of two things will happen this evening.

1. Toledo covers and of course EVERYONE wins.

2. Miami(OH) covers and this thread gets bumped up around 10:00pm

Hmm, maybe 'they' will win tonight, or maybe 'they' dont - but one things for sure. My bet on the MAC championship will be based on the 9 games Ive seen Toledo and M(OH) play this year along with the research and analysis that accompanies it. I had the right side a month ago, hope to be there again.

LW toldeo was down 24-7, i checked the halftime at practice and chalked it up a LOSS ... then i come back and they do a 35-0 number--this was biggest comeback for me this year i think ... anyhow, like william goldman said about Hollywood: Nobody knows anything!

Cap and talk, it doesnt affect the game, blocking, tackling, and breaks do ... not how the pub bets one side or another

gl, gregg

ps Im on rockets FWIW

IX BEender...great write up, very tr ue...why would sportsbook ever let you know what the numbers were and one big loss can make up for the 400 small bets that were won against them

Look at some of the service picks each week posted here. There GOW,GOM,GOY, 50/50 for most. But there is something about going aginst the puplic when getting points. Seems those dogs bark more then 50%.

I'm sorry, I didn't know I needed to have a minimum number of posts to make an observation around here and not that I care but last time I checked I had over 300 posts. Wise man says, Quality not Quantity :)

IX_Bender...that was one of the top 5 posts I've ever read on any sports capping board. People should copy that and paste it in their scrapbook. Another thing to keep in mind, in my opinion, in addition to the sportsbooks handle going "public"...is that you need to ask yourself when following certain handicappers - do I know who this guy really is? Do I know why he posts what he does? There are some that lay it down every day just to share and try to win, and some that claim to do that that are paid by God knows who to post God knows what. If you aren't capping yourself, you might as well be playing Roulette. (Which I personally love...)

Good luck, and thanks for the post, Bender.
