I cant believe we are going to have to see this matchup. If Texas does not absolutely crush Utah I would be shocked. I think it's hilarious that Cal did not get in; after loosing Geoff they would have probably lost anyways. How does Utah get in?? What a joke. They played one time with a winning record and A&M record is lik 6-5 and that was at home early in the season. Texas better not lose this game or they will be the joke of college football.

bbk, youre trippin bro.

only teams in the country that are head and shoulders above utah are southern cal and oklahoma.

this team is the best midmajor in the last half decade at least.

Personally thought Cal vs Utah would have been a dream matchup - not as a bettor just as fan.

Utah vs Pitt is terrible for Utah, just because if they win so what. Would love to see them matchup with one of the big boys.

No actually bbk was partially right.....
The guy on ESPN radio was saying that The BCS WEB SITE has initially listed Utah in The Rose Bowl today and TEXAS in The Fiesta vs. PITT.....that's why there was initial confusing reports.

Becauase The Rose Bowl Committee got sick to their stomaches when Texas got the bid over California and considered very very near inviting UTAH over Texas. It was gonna be Utah-Michigan for The Roses initially today.

Trev Alberts on ESPN was saying earlier that the Rose Committee was distained at the thought of Texas.

you really can't blame the rose bowl officials..they wanted California..not some Big 12 team. :sadwave:

Texas would destroy Utah. They would absolutely just run them over. The size difference between the Horns O-Line & Utah D-Line is about 75 pounds per man

Benson could go for 300 yards on that little finnese D.

I wish they did play. UT would win by AT LEAST 21

id venture to say utah would lose the game by 4-7 points maximum. wouldnt be a huge upset for utah to win that hypothetical matchup either. but horns are about 4 or 5 pts better imo. people are just starting to get a glimpse of how good meyer is. its old news in this part of the country.

it never was going to be Texas versus Utah...The BCS WEB SITE had initially posted UTAH going to The Rose Bowl against Michigan.

The Rose Committee at first inclination were inviting UTAH to play Michigan. At first they didn't want Texas ..they were disappointed in not getting California. I don't blame them..losing a Big Quality Team like that.

Exactly what is the fascination with these Big Twelve Teams ? These teams got rocked in last years bowls.!
Hopefully they will be better this year !

Pitt vs. Utah will be an extremely competitive game. Palko had made tremendous strides and the Meyer to Florida story will command much attention. 15 points is way too many for this match-up IMO. I think the Panthers can win.

G-Man, I always respect your opinion & look forward to your insight on games in both CBB & CFB. Here I must respectfully disagree.

Utah is a very good team. They on thier best could not beat USC, OU, Texas, or Auburn. With Cal they would have an outside shot.

But forget about those teams & lets just stick with Texas.

First Utah schedule

A&M, Zona, Utah St, Air Force, New Mex, UNC, UNLV, SDST, Colo St, Wyoming & BYU.

That is the 57th ranked schedule in difficulty. Do you honestly think UT would not also run the table with that schedule? Teams such as Air Force, SDST, Colo St & Wyoming would not hang 28 on Texas as they did vs Utah.

Texas played the 18th most difficult schedule.

What I feel is the huge advantage for Texas running game vs the WEAK Utes run D. Honestly if UNLV can run for 311, if Air Force can run for 302, & CSU can run for 226 on them..what would Benson & Young do them? None of those teams have a ground game that is remotely close to UT's in talent...yes AF is a running team that puts up good #'s, but they dont have a Benson.

Also those lesser teams never had a lead on Utah, so the run game could not be featured. So all season long no team, sans AF, has pounded Utah with run, & from my recalling AF was one of the few games Utah struggled with a bit.

Utah gives up a 151 yards/game 4.1 yds/carry..vs that schedule? Texas hammers out 302/ game on the ground & averages a whooping 6 yards a carry.

Utah cant stop power running. Texas excels at power running. That is a not a formula for success for the Utes. UT would simply wear them out. They would dominate TOP & by the 4th Q Utes would be getting gutted for 10 yards a pop by Benson.

On offense the Utes quick hitting run game & screens game woudnt work. If you had to compare any O UT played this season that is the closest to Utah it would have to be Mizzou or TT Look how Texas contained Texas Tech & MIzzou. Both held under 400 yards & the majority of Tech yards came in garbage time since it ended up a 51-21 game.

The one common oppenent would be A&M in which UT held them to 278 total yards to Utah D holding them to 437. A&M opening day was not nearly as good as they were closing out the season either.

I could go on, but this is probably boring folks.

Just my 2 cents.

3seconds:

schedule:
theres a ton of teams in the country that would have run the table with utah's schedule. im by no means trying to convince you or anyone that their schedule was any good. after all, theyre a mountain west team.

utah defense:
again, no real argument there either. trev alberts put it best. the utes have just enough defense to get the job done. they have a respectable, but hardly great defensive unit. texas would definitely churn out some rush yards.

utah offense:
heres where i completely disagree. ostensibly, a utah to texas tech offensive comparison might seem fair, but its really not. texas tech is a pass heavy offense with almost zero running game. meyer is adamant about running a balanced spread offense.

THAT is what makes utah so difficult to stop.

they average 502 yds a total offense a game.

its a 246 rush/256 pass split.

thats why i think meyer is such a damn good coach. he's very innovative with his offense, but its not 'gimmicky'. hes a midwestern guy who knows you have to be able to run the football. texas tech's splits are 388 pass/ 94 rush. theres no comparison. utah can play the power game (albeit from the shotgun). and utah can throw it around on you.

enjoy the football knowledge you bring. nothing wrong with disagreeing. again, im not saying utah is better than texas by any stretch. im just saying utah is NOT your typical bcs buster, nor your typical midmajor. theyre very very good, and very legit.
