Rockies' Neagle arrested for solicitation of prostitution
Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Colorado Rockies pitcher Denny Neagle was arrested early Friday for allegedly paying a woman $40 for oral sex, the Rocky Mountain News reported.
According to the paper, Neagle was pulled over by police for speeding on a Denver street, at which time an officer noticed the pitcher's watery and bloodshot eyes and detected an odor of alcohol.
The officer also noticed Neagle's pants were undone, and when queried about it, Neagle reportedly told the officer that he was "just getting comfortable."
But a woman inside the car told police she had performed oral sex on Neagle for a fee of $40, and Neagle, who then admitted he was in the area looking for sex, was ticketed for solicitation of prostitution by police.
His $40 was seized as evidence, and police informed him of an impending court date.
For their part, the Rockies released a statement Friday night from team president Keli McGregor.
"This is an extremely serious allegation against Denny Neagle and we are continuing to gather all information about it," the statement reads. "While we are saddened by the circumstances surrounding Denny Neagle, our organization has and will continue to place great emphasis on character and accountability."
In 13 major league seasons, Neagle, 36, compiled a 124-92 record with a 4.24 ERA over 392 games with Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Cincinnati, the New York Yankees and Colorado. He spent last season on the disabled list.
