So Miss -4.5 over North Texas *****
Hate going against my alma mater but think NT is in trouble tomr.
NT has dominated the Sun Belt.Going 21-0 the past 3 yrs.But its the same scenario with other teams playing up a class. They were 0-4 vs Texas,Baylor,FAU,and Colorado. And they win 7 straight in the Sun.Not one team they beat this yr had a winning record.Lyr the same.Started out 1-3 losing to OU,AF,and Arkansas and they beat baylor.
And in 2002 the same..Went 0-4 losing to Texas,Bama,TCU and Arizona and then winning the next 7 in the Sun.
NT has played in 3 straight NO Bowls.Colorado st beat them bad,NT beat Cinncy and last yr Memphis beat them.
If you take away all the Sun belt games the past 3 yrs NT is 3-12.They beat Cinncy in the bowl,Baylor lyr and little Nichols St.
The point I'm making is NT outside of conf play is not very good despite playing all the UT's,OU's etc

NT has Jamario Thomas the No 1 rushing back in football.Avg 189 yds and scoring 17 tds.Not bad for missing the 1st 3 games.Hall is an avg Qb who throws nothing but play action passes set up by the run.He has 13 tds and only 2 ints.Has done an excellant job moving the ball. OL of NT has played really good.
NT defense is the problem. They give up 175 yds on the ground and 240 in the air.DL is ok but the linebackers have been the worst.DB's lead in tackles. That tells you the ball carriers are going right by the front 7.Teams like UL Monroe,Idaho and New Mex St have moved the ball vs NT and scored.

So Miss ended up 6-5 losing a tough game to Cal 26-16.They started out on fire going 5-1 beating Neb,Tulane,So Fl,Houston and ECU.Then they lost a few until they beat UAB.
So Miss defense is tough.Although they have given up big yards to some top backs. They rank 83rd in rushing defense.
Offense has been inconsistent. But Almond the QB could have a huge game vs NT defense. If Almond threw for 304 yds vs Cal he might get 400 vs NT.SM also has the best def player in Conf USA in Boley. So Miss has 3 running backs with Harris as there best.

NT has a homerun hitter in Jamario.Anytime he touches the ball he can break one for a 50 yd scamper.I think SM shadows him all game.He will get his 170 yds but I just think So Miss will be able to move the ball and outscore NT.
So Miss D can slow down NT but not stop them.NT defense will have problems with Almond and co.
So Miss wins 35-21

Elvis, your right. But thats my point.Memphis lyr beat them by 10..27-17.And NT had a good defense with 3 outstanding LB's and Brandon Kennedy the Sun Belt POYr.
So Miss lost at Memphis 30-26 this yr.Lyr So Miss likked you guys 23-6.
I know its hard to compare like that. But NT is playing up in class. If you put NT in Conf USA they win 1 or 2 games vs ECU,maybe Houston.

How much fuel is left?

How much fuel is left?

How much gas does S.Miss have left in it's tank?
Southern Miss had much higher expectations when they started the season 4-0 ; they are vulnerable both emotionally and defensively. Still.... every time North Texas steps up they get their lunch. I'll probably pass this one but will lean with Southern Miss. Good luck Box.
Best wishes

Box, appreciate the assessment and fully agree. That does not mean that Thomas could not have a great night and carry the Meanies but SM D should contain him.

That said, what are your thought about the total at 52.5.

As always, appreciate your write-ups.

Bill,total throws me off/Not sure.

Another small factor is Jamario sat out a few weeks ago with a hamstring. They say he's 100% but maybe not.Hammy sometimes take time..
I can't lose tonite.
So Miss wins and covers I'm richer.
NT wins outright I'll be glad and happy but poorer. If So Miss wins but NT covers I'll be &%^$#

Thanks guys for the comments..,So Miss has more talent.Thats plain and simple.NT Wr's missed a couple of catches but even that wouldn't of changed the outcome.
So Miss put 7 or 8 guys in the box and shut down Jamario. That was predicable.
It's hard for NT to play up in class. There 1-3 now.
But North Texas is my school. I met my wife there dribbling a basketball between my legs imatating Pistol Pete in front of Kerr hall.Who would of ever known 33 yrs later I would have 4 great kids and my wife is still as pretty as the day I met her.
Many greats went to North Texas...Joe Greene,Pat Boone,Larry McMurty,Bill Moyers,Roy Orbison,Dr Phil,Joe Don Baker,Phyliss George,Norah Jones, Don Henley,Spider Lockhart[my favorite NY Giant],Lou Marini {blues brother] and of course "box and one" and "the misses".
Tonite I'm richer but still proud of my Mean Green. Can't wait until next yrs New Orleans Bowl...
