I must say i was shocked also and if things don't sail well for billy he will be on the blocks but he has done this before and made it work so we will see, he got some prospects who could work out in a year or 2 also, that is the type of guy he is I keep waiting for it to burn him and I think one day it will but till then it seems everytime he does something it has worked so will wait this one out, . pujo I agree on mm I think he has seen his better days IMO.

hard guy bb to figure out but this one has me thinking it bites him in the ass.

His hands are tied. Once his young talent hits their prime and their contracts are almost up, he has to trade them or let them go...the owner won't spend any money on the team.

Can't judge this trade right now, as Calero and Haren are very good prospects, as is the catcher they got in the deal. Mulder's arm might be worse than anyone realizes...he starts the season and tanks again..then his value goes down even more.

Rather brilliant trade for Oakland the more I think about it. Haren a excellent young pitcher who replaces a solid #2, #3 guy who has a few question marks injury wise and will soon be expensive. Calero, solid bullpen guy. Can set-up and even close if need be. Though he is 30, not a prospect. Finally a catcher who has Joe Mauer type ability, especially hitting wise. That is something worth having.

Well Mulder had 2 years left on his contract. The trade aonly makes sense if you are convinced his best days are behind him. Regardless, surely you could have gotten more. But it is a much better deal than the Hudson one. He culd have held out for Giles, and other teams offered more. Made little sense to me. Trading them is one thing I can understand, but you have to rape those teams. BB didnt. As for the catcher, athe As are knee deep in them. They desperately need a second baseman and after those trades still dont have one. Rumor from my "close to the management" friend out there is that better than 50-50 Zito is about to be gone as well, probably to Baltimore.

They got Ginter to play second-base. The Giles deal wasn't going to happen, plus Ginter has quietly turned into a quality second baseman with some pop.

Kendall gives them 3 or 4 years behind the plate, which will allow them plenty of time to develop Barton, who is one of the top prospects in the minor league ball. Getting him and two quality young arms...I don't see how much more Beane could have gotten. You don't think he called other teams and discussed other offers, but just decided to take these 'bad' deals?

Mulder was going to make 6.5 million this upcoming season and 8 million the next. Chavez' 8 million kicks in this season as well, so they weren't going to go over their budget from previous years...that meant a couple of their top guns were going to get traded this offseason.
