montana st -4-: this one seems to set up well. san jose st, mired in a three game losing streak, is playing shorthanded right now because of injuries, basicly dressing ten and playing seven. offensively, they are a one-man team behind sr forward marquin chandler, with no other consistent option. the short rotation has put the starters in the position of having to log excessive minutes - chandler and two other starters played 35+ minutes in friday's 21 pt home loss to uc-irvine.

a month ago, montana st dropped a one point decision in san jose while playing without their starting center, 6'11'' al beye. chandler had a field day in the paint and carried the day for the spartans. tonight, san jose makes its first trip ever to bozeman to play at altitude for the first time this season. with beye back in the paint, life shouldn't be so easy for chandler and san jose's short rotation is bound to take its toll in the second half. btw, spartans played two games at altitude last year, a 29 point loss at nevada and a 21 point loss at boise.

montana st is playing its third straight home game, having knocked off a couple of cream puffs in the last week. tonight they ride that momentum, get their starting center back and find themselves in an ideal situation to avenge the early season loss to the spartans. a double digit victory margin doesn't seem unreasonable.

another one also loop, is that i am not sure boise st is double digits better than elon at this point...

3 keys to a BSU victory

1. Come to play.
BSU is coming off a tough, disappointing loss to Oregon State that has the team feeling a little low. Elon isn't likely to get the Broncos fired up, but this BSU team isn't good enough to take anyone lightly. The Broncos need a quality effort, especially since they'll have a week between games.
2. Dominate the boards.
Jason Ellis can rebound with anyone, but his back isn't 100 percent. That means other BSU players need to step up. In a perfect world, coach Greg Graham would love to rest Ellis as much as possible with the WAC season looming. He can afford to do that only if other post players hit the glass and defend.
3. Get to the foul line.
Instead of settling for jump shots, BSU needs to attack the basket with its post players as well as wings Coby Karl and Jermaine Blackburn. The latter are a combined 28.5 percent from 3-point range. Inside the arc, they make 41 percent of their shots. By attacking the basket, it will also create more chances to get to the free-throw line, which is something that will help scoring.

good luck tonight..

johnnyb,

altitude is around the same, about 5000 feet, give or take a couple of hundred feet.

ie,

can't say i'd trust boise to lay dd, but elon has lost some personnel of late and has been doing some adjusting.
