YTD 57-46 +64.5x

Rough last two weeks put a little dent in an overall good season. Time to get it going in the best time of year, bowl season.

One early grab:

A&M -3 5x - Getting this one before it hits 3.5. Coach Fran has had his ups and downs this season, but that can be expected with a young team. They have shown they can play with the best (see OU), but also have shown they can play down to the level of their competition (see: Baylor, CU). The extra time to prepare and more importantly more practice time for Coach Fran to teach, gives A&M an edge. Looking at UT, they essentially have played really well in one game this year, at UGA. This was an impressive win in Athens, but lets look at the other tough opponents they've faced. Auburn (twice), routed both times. Florida, they were handed this game at the wire by the officials. ND, loss at home. Alabama, near loss against a bad team, again at home. Throw in close to kentucky and Vandy. Looks like an average team, smells like an average team.......

Throw in the fact that A&M is essentially playing a bowl game, and that UT is again playing in a 2nd tier bowl (see Peach Bowls of last two years) and methinks fat Phil and the boys are in trouble.

After looking hard at most ofl the bowl teams/games, it appears my "horse" will be the Big 12 this year. I also see the Big Ten being in some serious trouble. Not a very good conference, and not very good matchups either.

btw, all signs are pointing to the Longhorns in the Rose Bowl. I may not play it. Don't especially like playing against my team in big games, but this was looks REALLY bad for the blue. Lots of similarities betweeen UM and UT really. Go through UM's schedule this year and try and find a win that they can hang their hat on. The only angle that spells good for UM is Lloyds record vs top ten teams. there are also some off field problems going on in A2 right now that will likely cost UM two starters as well. whether I play the RB or not I will do a write up on the game.

Great season CWood...Cant wait to see your write up on Purdue and Michigan...I think your right about Texas, they really do seem like the play here...I think the last game before the draft factor helps here alot for Cedric Benson, like we were discussing in another thread about Orton...I think Benson goes out with a bang, Good Luck

Thanks Irish and Vyrus, best of luck to both of you also.

Some notes of interest on the Rose Bowl from UM's presser and "inside" information I've been given:

1) DL Problems: Larry Harrison (starting DT/DE) will not make the trip due to off the field problems and major contributor Jeremy Van Alstyne (DE) will not play due to injury.True freshman behemoth 330lber Allen Branch (very raw) will be expected to play a big role and so will pedestrian veteran DL's Alex Ofili and Rondell Biggs (these guys are a liability imo). The defensive coaches had planned to go back to last year's 4-3 allignment given all the problems they've had stopping mobile QB's out of the spread (MSU and OSU). It may not be an option now. Not good for my boys at all.

2) OL problems: Starting All-Big Ten LT Adam Stenavich may or not make the trip due to an off the field issue and definitely will not start. Mike Kolodziej, a highly thought of RS-frosh will make the start in his place. Kolo did start the opening two games at RT before Jake Long won the position from him. He's not totally inexperienced, but he's nowhere near the player Stenavich is at this point.

3) Good news for UM at WR: Starting wideout Jason Avant will play after having his knee scoped after the OSU game. There was some question whether or not he would. Carr confirmed that he will practice upon reaching LA and will start the Rose Bowl.

I will pass on more info as I receive it from bowl practices.

Okie State -2 5x - see other thread for Troy Smith news......Liked OkState anyhow. No way OSU wins this game w/ Zwick at the helm.

MC, see above in this thread for my take on the Rose. I don't think it looks pretty at all for UM.

btw, Jason Avant (starting WR) is now out for the game.

After last night, do you still think the Big 10 is in trouble. They looked pretty damn good to me. Don't get me wrong, I was on Okla St. And thought the Big 10 sucked. But now starting to worry about their other match-ups.

Fluidoz, last night has me re-evaluating some things, but I also think that last night was a particularily bad matchup for Okie State. In hinsight, I should have seen it. The teams that have beaten Ohio State can protect the passer and throw the football. Okie State can do neither. Shame on me for not seeing that. I did think that the bucks would be flat considering the Alamo bowl pales in comparison to their last two bowl games, but obviously that was not the case. Matchup wise going forward I think that the Big Ten has far less favorable scenarios.
