Again, thanks for all the nice comments about the Charlie R story.Buts let get down to buisness.
URI +4.5 over Iona *****
Anytime you play Iona your rolling dice. There is some good talent on that team with no coaching.I said it here before many times.Ruland was fired then re-instated when he was told to get rid of his asst. coaches. He's a lame duck coach now.Problems they had lyr still excist. They have lost to Siena,G.Mason,Rider,Fordham, and Vermont by 20[but Ver. is good] They beat Bonnie and NAU. They beat VCU at home a few weeks ago 77-72.But VCU's top scorer George got hurt in the 1st half and only played 9 minuts in the 2nd half.
Jenkins is nice in the middle. But he can't shoot FT's shooting 60%.And he has gone to the line 77 times hitting 47.He has almost half the FT's of the entire team.Burtt is solid avg 16 pts a game. Then Wash,Marshall,Bruin are all capable of scoring but are inconsistent.McCullough the gd has been benched yet he can turn a game around.
No one has a role on this team. There offense is terrible, they run no sets, the gds over dribble, etcThey have 6 players that have 27,24,24,20,14 and 14 turnovers.Thats a lot of turnovers.I know gd orientated teams have more TO's but thats still a lot.
URI has a great coach in Baron. They lost to Manhattan.Maine,BU,Rutgers,Seton Hall and lost in OT to Prov..They beat Brown and Stoney Brook.
Hazelton has led them in scoring rebounding, etc. No one else avgs in double figures.Sullivan can stick a 3 and Momplasier is avg 6 bds a game.Mack,Bitee,Lucky, etc have contributed.
But tonite Robinson and Wise come back.Robinson is a pre-season1st team A-10 gd.He can score from the outside[-56 tre's lyr] or slash to the hoop. He'll play pt gd but Baron would love to move him to the 2 gd.Wise is a 6'5 fd who can also score.Adding these two guys to help out Hazelton and URI went from an avg team to dangerous team.
I'm sure Robinson is a little rusty but don't forget.Pt gds are the quickest to unrust.maybe his outside shot could be off but not his explosivness to the hoop.
URI does have some frontcourt players in Momplaisur,Mack,Moore and Daniels. There all 6'6,6'7 and 6'9.Throw in Wise at 6'6 and Iona could have matchup problems.
Lyr URI beat Iona 80-69 in RI.Iona is a tough place to play. It's almost like an old HS gym with bad lighting. But the crowd won't be to big.X-mas vacation and Iona is a commuter school anyway.
URI is 1-4 ats this yr and 0-3 away.Iona is 5-3 ats.But Baron gets back one of the best players in the A-10 today and URI lyr was a good dog team.
I think Iona will have a problem with matching up with Hazelton at 6'8.And Rulands biggest headache will be trying to stop Robinson who is the best player in the gym.
I think URI can win this straight up.I love +4.5.
I think the VCU win spun some heads in Vegas and maybe they don't think Robinson will be that much of an impact yet.Think there wrong..
Will be back later with Nova-Mid Tenn. GL
