Nutt Denies Contact With LSU
Coach Says Speculation On Future At Arkansas Amounts to 'Rumors'

POSTED: 1:27 pm CST December 28, 2004
UPDATED: 1:32 pm CST December 28, 2004

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- University of Arkansas football coach Houston Nutt said Tuesday that Louisiana State University officials have not contacted him about taking the job that coach Nick Saban left to coach the Miami Dolphins.

Nutt said talk that puts him among the candidates for the job amounts to only "rumors."

"I don't feel like anything is going on there," Nutt said. "I'm the Arkansas coach."

Saban will coach the Tigers in the Capital One Bowl against the University of Iowa on Saturday.

Earlier this year, Nutt turned down the head coaching spot at Nebraska.

Nutt said Monday that he hasn't talked to his agent, Jimmy Sexton, in a month. Sexton also represents Saban.

Houston Nutt expressed interest in the position to LSU AD Skip Bertman, but also told Skip that he will not string along Razorback fans, players and administration following last season's flirtation with the Husker job. Nutt, like the rest of the candidates, is obviously aware that Louisiana is a hotbed of talent with no major in-state recruiting competion. Saban and company have piled up 3 consecutive top 5 classes thus BCS runs the next 2 seasons are expected in Baton Rouge.

from nola.com:

Nutt told the Morning News of Northwest Arkansas that he spoke with LSU athletic director Skip Bertman via telephone Tuesday afternoon.

Nutt said he told Bertman that he can't be a part of an interview process, along with a handful of candidates, largely because of the coach's highly publicized flirtation with Nebraska one year ago. But if LSU indicates they want Nutt for the job, he would not rule out discussions.

Nutt, 47, said he expected to hear by today whether LSU is interested in him.

from dandydon website:

I reported Monday that Bobby Petrino had been interviewed and that Jack Del Rio would be interviewed on Tuesday. ESPN reported yesterday that Bobby Petrino had indeed been interviewed by LSU in Memphis and it was also reported Tuesday that Jack Del Rio had an interview with LSU Tuesday afternoon. There were also reports Tuesday afternoon that LSU had asked permission to interview Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt and there have been a few reports that Nutt has been offered the LSU job and will accept the job this morning. I do not believe that is true. I do not believe anyone has been offered the job at this time. Houston Nutt's agent is Jimmy Sexton who is also Tommy Tubberville and Nick Saban's agent, and I believe Sexton is the worlds best for stirring up you know what. I do not believe there is anything to the Houston Nutt story, but my Arkansas source who is very close to the situation swears by his story that Houston Nutt will take the job.

Del Rio

Been reading in today's Florida Times Union (Jacksonville) that LSU is intrested in Jack Del Rio.

Makes sense since he played for New Orleans, his wife is from there, he loves the town, and considers it home, along with his daughter graduating from LSU!! :sadwave:

Thanks,
Henry

NO NUTT!!!!!

NO NUTT!!!!!

Houston Nutt? - No thanks

Del Rio and Petrino interest me most at this time - both are young and energetic and I could really see Del Rio being an excellent recruiter of talent.

Yo Cie - where y'at? I hear you're all over the Miners today - should we meet at gametime for 1/2 priced sake, beer, and sushi?

Nutt isn't going to LSU. He got a huge raise and contract extension last year after he flirted with Nebraska.

Iowa Child ---- Hate to say this because I do not want Houston Nutt as LSU's HC, but I feel your reasoning is flawed. Hell, Saban received a large raise (highest paid HC in NCAA) and extension ( 7 years) after flirting with Chicago Bears last year, but that did not keep him from taking a better position this season.
