early in the 2nd half, thought i was gonna be on my way to a 5-1 week in the mac. holy shit did kent state fold.

toledo rockets (-7) over akron
marshall thundering herd moneyine (+130) over bowling green

the season-ending injury to wood should be too tough to overcome in toledo. hate to make too much of one guy because, as spang has noted, akron is a pretty deep team. but thats a big big blow. youre taking away a kid who is a double-double pretty much every time out. due to some weird scheduling, this is only toledo's 3rd home game this season and they lost all of once last year. rockets have been inconsistent for sure, but i think akron is gonna struggle here. will the young zips be able to play well on the road in a tough place w/o one of their key guys? thats the question. if they had more experience, id think maybe. but not seein a close game tonight.

bowling green is exceeding a lot of expectations, but i dont think they should be laying points in huntington. of course linesmaker has little choice with bg at 7-2 and marshall at 2-8. but this is a very winnable game for marshall. bowling green has beaten up on some real scrubs this year while marshall has battled through a very difficult non-conf schedule. no reason for marshall not to win this game. the only time bg has scored more than 59 pts on the road this yr is at god-awful youngstown state.

I hate to, but gotta' butt heads with you on Toledo...

I think Akron has enough depth, but I'm counting on the fact that Akron shoots almost twice as many '3's" as Toledo and Toledo's D is allowing opponents to shoot over 51% from the field.

I started looking at this game last night when the line was 7. By the time I made up my mind it went down to 6....I still bought it. Now I hear its at 5 and a hook some places....My sheets show Toledo winning by only 1.

Toledo wins at home and Akron covers.

Good Luck...

hawkeye:

that total is really tough. buffalo definitely likes to push the ball and use their athleticism. cmu allows a lot of points because their defense is a joke. but over 159 seems steep. buffalo playing a game in the 90s at bg certainly inflates the total a bit. i think its an under game but not by much. i think buffalo wins a game in the high 70s.

screamin:

good luck with the zips. theyre a team that can really shoot it when they get hot. but that can be both a blessing and a curse if you sit on the perimeter too much. thats why i think the loss of wood hurts. he gave them a presence inside and he hit the boards really hard. if zips shoot well, they cover. but if they struggle, i think this will turn into a rout. i guess we'll know more at 9pm, lol. good luck

split 'em out. probably shoulda just stuck with just the toledo play.
marshall game was there for the taking, the herd just too inept to get it done right now. still really believe bowl.green will be a great go-against in the coming weeks, but gotta give dakich and his guys credit for getting a conf.road win tonight.

Well the Zips went something like 3/17 from beyond the arc, game... set.... match.

Akron will paste them at the JAR 2/14.

i know toledo isnt a rebounding monster, but zips winning that glass is encouraging for weeks to come. looks like romeo is ready to step up for wood. if stats are correct -- 17 and 10 for him.

Yeah, travis plays his ass off. I really think that the Zips will still be OK. Remember that Travis,Futch and Preston will still keep some size on the floor. The Zips really were right there tonight despite poor 3point and free throw shooting. Unfortunately they travel to WMU saturday. I believe that WMU, who has played damn well, gets their injured point guard back.

Nice call on Toledo Gman.

I stubbornly stuck with Akron, (knowing Wood was out) but mainly because of their 3 point shooting....Well, I didn't see the game, but I saw in the box score they shot an uncharacteristic 16% from behind the arc.....That was enough to kill me....Just about even everywhere else....

Nice Game....
