Firstly, let me say thank you for your service. My brother served with the SAS in the British Army for 20 years, saw action in the Falklands, Northern Ireland and the Balkans, so I do know a little about the commitment involved.
Secondly, we will just have to disagree about the role of the US in the world. If we look at the sweep of history, the US has done so much to liberate all peoples and must continue to do so. Your work on the Korean penninsula in a great example - keeping the South free and working towards the day when the North will also be free.
This then, is America's destiny.
Would you prefer France's destiny? A pathetic, decrepit country without spirit, ....a declining nation of socialist anti-success whiners who cannot be trusted to do anything at any time in any way.
Our work now in Iraq needs the passage of decades before we can see its value and wisdom. As Churchill said: "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for every other kind". Quite.
