I don't think you're a puss, some people just have problems with that. I would have the same feelings if I had to give a speech in front of people.

I think you should tell your physician about this and see if he can prescribe you something similar to valium; maybe some xanax or ativan.

10 milligrams of Ambient! If you go to your doctor and tell him what you want it for he should write the prescription. I hate to fly and when i can't get that I'll take 3 Tylenol PM's. That normally puts me out by takeoff if I take them 30 mins prior to boarding.

Get some xanax. A buddy of mine is terrified of flying. He takes a couple of xanax right before take off and he's out for the whole flight. Flys all the time now. Before xanax, he was a total wreck a day before the flight, during the flight, and for up to five hours after the flight. Xanax worked wonders for him.

Nothing wrong with being afraid to fly, I have flowen over 100+ times in my life and I take xanax because when i played ball had a couple bad flights and it really messed with my mind, these were bad storms. But was fine before then and now I am ok still take xanax when I fly but the little bumps I can handle and I learned all about planes and why you have those damn bumps from a program at vegas airport for feared flyers, it really helped had pilots with many years come in and speak telling you why the plane go up and down at times, he said nothing to worry about the plane must bounch at times when air temp change from ground to height the plane is is the most reason, and it is just like a bridge moving with lot of traffic on it you must have give or it would break same with a plane and the give in the wings, He also said that even if they go through a storm not around or above it , it might feel rough to you but they know what they are flying into 10-20 mins before they hit it, if it is the wrong color on screen they use they will go around or above storm, he ended by saying ever pilot wants flight to be as safe as can be because he is also on the plane. Nothing happens in the air or if it has it is very rare your very safe why you are up, take offs and the next 15 mins are key he said if anything and is rare is going to happen it would be then in that time frame and if it does most all planes can turn back and land, landing you can have a few troubles but not like even back in the 80's with wind shear and downdrafts airports now have radar to alert the tower and planes also have the warning so landing is very safe, most things that go wrong are human mistakes and they are very very very few and far between he said, then he showed us a graph of how many flights are in the air each day in the whole world any type of plane and coppter it was unreal the number, trust me your safe as can be, the number of flights in the world each day is unreal and the reason fear is because if something does happen you see a big number for the most partof people who will be hurt or worse but look at all the flights in the world each day and all the people then times that times a year compaired to traffic wrecks or evn more people hit why walking far out numbers injuries by plane or worse.

Get the xanax and if plane hits some bumps just remember that is the air temp and the plane just giving like it should, and no polit is going to risk his own life flying into unsafe weather, like he said he has a family to go home to also. You will be fine.

And to be honest I believe this and have strong personal realitionship with god, when it is your time to go it is your time, you could be on the crapper and when your number pops up it is up no matter where you are. so relax get the xanax and enjoy the flight. much safer and faster then driving those 30 hours.

A pilot said that ?

I am never flying again.

Thats it for me.

I can just hear the pilot Captain Jim coming out of the cockpit and saying ...

Not to worry folks but the most dangerous time for a plane crash or runway buster as we like to call them, is during take off and landings. Reason is thats when the most can go wrong, mechanically I mean. I mean sometimes we fly when things ain't
just functioning too good. And then if there is a crash you better be prepared for some smoke so damn heavy you will probably not be able to get out of your seat before you pass out from the fumes and burning.

And landing in the ocean, forget it. You can strap on your floating device and prepare to die with a yellow plastic thing around your neck.

When you feel that strong turbulance when we are at 700 mph into a tail wind, don't worry about it. If the plane didn't move like that it would ****ing tear apart and we would all be killed in a horrible firey crash worse than hell on earth.

And don't even think about getting next to one of them exit doors as you will be under the pile to get out. Just listen to the flight attendants and you might have a chance.

Yep, then the landings got to happen and let me tell you there is no room for any miscues when your landing a 747 fully loaded with fuel, carrying 50 tons of cargo.

Well Glad I could help

Let me go prepare for landing.

Just leave the flying to us.

Captain Jim
...................................................

I don't think I could take the xanax. I would hate to miss all that excitement.

Lakers coach Rudy Tomjanovich was still shook up before Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, some 17 hours after the team plane from Denver malfunctioned before landing safely.

``I'm just happy I've got the chance to be here today,'' he said.

The charter flight to Los Angeles from Denver following a 95-83 loss to the Nuggets on Wednesday night was nearing the ground, about to land, when it suddenly soared upward, Tomjanovich said.

Lakers spokesman John Black said the problem involved a wing flap. An auxiliary system eventually kicked in, enabling a safe but rocky landing about 50 minutes after the plane almost touched down the first time.

``It seemed like a lifetime,'' Tomjanovich said. ``We saw we were going farther and farther away from the airport. ... Your mind starts working on you.

Tomjanovich said at one point, the pilot of the reconfigured 727 left the cockpit with a flashlight to check out the wing.

``They went to a backup system,'' the coach said. ``When we came down, it was like Christmas -- all the red lights.''

Tomjanovich referred to the many fire trucks waiting on the runway.

John Black, the team's director of public relations, said there were about 50 vehicles waiting when the plane landed about 1:30 a.m.

``I was sleeping. I didn't know anything about it,'' Lakers guard Chucky Atkins said. ``I didn't even know (the fire trucks) were for us.''

Forward Jumaine Jones said much the same thing.

Rookie guard Sasha Vujacic said he didn't realize what was going on, either.

``Better not to know,'' he said with a smile

As I have mentioned once or twice over the years here at MJ's that after college I was in the service and was a Helicopter Pilot_I saw action in Gulf War 1 and Somalia and I would never really compare flying Jet aircraft to Helicopters but let me say the 99% of the Pilots out there are so well trained that you should feel better flying with them than driving yourself somewhere. A lot of the commercial Pilots out there even to this day are ex-service guys like myself and saw action in Vietnam-the last statistic I saw was that something like 71% of the Pilots in Nam eventually worked as commercial Pilots---These Pilots in that war flew so many missions it was unbelievable-I introduce myself to Pilots all the time when i travel now for my business and if they tell me they were in the service and or in Nam-i feel comfortable as hell.....................by the way Jet Pilots used to call us helicopter guys "glorified bus drivers" it was pretty funny but it made for some fun ribbing between each other...............I have a H-13 1951 restored helicopter now that I fly a few times ever summer....myself and my Partner bought it at a aircraft auction in 2001....I will fly till I die......................just thought I would pass THIS ON

there is no reason to be afraid of flying as it is relatively safe. I am more scared of driving especially during the first few snow storms of the year.

you always have some idiot who drives like it is summer and does not realize that on ice it is harder to stop, not matter what you drive. also if you go off the road somewhere remote there is always a chance though slim of freezing to death.

flight travel is safe, and the people who fix them are very well trained.

thanks

Flying is relatively safe, it's hitting the ground at Mach 2 thats the big dissapointment.

Kidding aside, I have a commercial Pilots license, although now days I only fly recreationally. I think the major fear associated with flying may be the unknown. The more you know about flying (as Fletch pointed out) the less fearful you become. Flying is much safer than driving, as all the stats have shown and the pilots have a great deal of training and the aircraft maintanence is scrutinized.

Try to relax, take the xanax if you must, and enjoy the flight.

Worm: I was in the 1st Air Cav. mostly cemtral highands and I corp. Where you anywhere near there?

training huh, I used to call it tying one on but different strokes for different folks...just kidding :142lmao: CNN NEWS....

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (AP) -- An armed AirTran Airways pilot was charged with operating an aircraft under the influence after a federal screener at McCarran International Airport smelled alcohol, authorities said Thursday.

Las Vegas police arrested Oliver Paul Reason Jr., 37, in the cockpit of the AirTran plane shortly after he passed through an airport checkpoint Wednesday night, according to the Transportation Security Administration, police and the airline.

Orlando-based AirTran Holdings Inc. issued a statement Thursday saying the airline followed its safety procedures to ensure the Atlanta-bound aircraft was held at the gate.

"The captain neither took command of the aircraft nor was the aircraft operated in any manner," the airline said. It apologized to the 60 passengers inconvenienced by the canceled flight and said it is cooperating with authorities.

The pilot has been suspended from his duties as a federal flight deck officer, which had allowed him to carry the firearm, the TSA said.

If the Federal Aviation Administration finds that the pilot was intoxicated on the job, he will be barred from flying, FAA spokesman Donn Walker said.

The pilot, who has worked for AirTran since 1994, has been suspended indefinitely pending further investigation, airline spokesman Tad Hutcheson said. He added that police told airline officials that Reason had failed a Breathalyzer test.

Reason was being held Thursday at the Clark County jail. It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer.

After the terrorist hijackings on September 11, 2001, pilots' unions lobbied for permission to carry guns in the cockpit. Federal lawmakers granted approval the next year.

Fletch...thanks for the info on the flight stuff from the pilots, but....give AirTran a break. ValuJet was ValuJet, Airtran just assumed their planes and gates. They actually had nothing to do with the containers, another company did. Sure it was their plane, and ultimately their demise. They actually have a nice fleet of jets now and beat the crud out of Delta in customer service here in Atlanta. We are lucky to have a good alternative to Delta. AirTran caused Delta to change their policies this past week. Good luck on your flight next Sat, by the way.
