if theres one thing that is synonymous with martin luther king day, its horizon league basketball. and im lovin the conference this year. of the two smaller conferences that i cap, for whatever reason i feel like im seeing the horizon much better than the mac right now.
detroit titans (-2.5)
both teams coming off solid wins on saturday. but i think this quick turnaround game is going to cause loyola a lot more trouble than it will detroit. the two best defensive teams in the league are wright state and detroit. both wright and detroit are very physical and really make you work for everything you get. loyola gets both of 'em back to back. to their credit, they really played a nice game against wright state on saturday and hit a good % of their shots. but i dont think this offense will be able to withstand the same kind of balls-out pressure defense just 48 hours later from detroit. the titans have really seemed to flip the switch now that horizon league play has started, and they got a huge boost when brandon cotton became eligible a few games ago after transferring from msu. hes really helped them offensively. i know detroit has been no prize on the road, but theyre without a doubt the superior team here. this is also a game theyve gotta win if they want to keep early pace in the league race, because theyve got two tough ass games up next (at illinois-chicago and home to wisconsin-milwaukee in a big rematch). watson's boys should take care of business. and can you really go wrong betting a team from downtown detroit on MLK day? its kind of a no-brainer.
