if theres one thing that is synonymous with martin luther king day, its horizon league basketball. and im lovin the conference this year. of the two smaller conferences that i cap, for whatever reason i feel like im seeing the horizon much better than the mac right now.

detroit titans (-2.5)

both teams coming off solid wins on saturday. but i think this quick turnaround game is going to cause loyola a lot more trouble than it will detroit. the two best defensive teams in the league are wright state and detroit. both wright and detroit are very physical and really make you work for everything you get. loyola gets both of 'em back to back. to their credit, they really played a nice game against wright state on saturday and hit a good % of their shots. but i dont think this offense will be able to withstand the same kind of balls-out pressure defense just 48 hours later from detroit. the titans have really seemed to flip the switch now that horizon league play has started, and they got a huge boost when brandon cotton became eligible a few games ago after transferring from msu. hes really helped them offensively. i know detroit has been no prize on the road, but theyre without a doubt the superior team here. this is also a game theyve gotta win if they want to keep early pace in the league race, because theyve got two tough ass games up next (at illinois-chicago and home to wisconsin-milwaukee in a big rematch). watson's boys should take care of business. and can you really go wrong betting a team from downtown detroit on MLK day? its kind of a no-brainer.

Not to mention this is Loyola's third game in five days. . . so the quick turnaround should definitely hurt Loyola over Detroit.

gman2 - again think most of your analysis is spot on. My primary concern is that this game stays low scoring and relatively close enough for the Titans to be sent up to the stripe quite often.
Thats one place they dont shoot well from, and this is on the road.

Better team, yes. Playing better ball behind Cotton - yes.
Win the turnover battle and hit 70% from the line and this should cash. GL

wisconsin-milwaukee under 127

although the final scores might look like easy uwm wins in their two meetings last season, wright state really battled these guys. uwm was one of the best field goal % teams in the nation last year and wright held them to 42% in each game. theres no way wsu stays in this game going up and down the floor with milwaukee and i think biancardi knows that. wright state did a good job of slowing the pace down in both meetings last season. uwm is playing much better defense than last season too. although it might sound paradoxical, wright state could be catching uwm at the right time, as milwaukee is coming off a 30-pt demolition of rival uwgb on saturday and im not sure if uwm can match that intensity 48 hrs later. obviously uwm is far superior to wright, but the raiders can be a pain in the ass with their halfcourt style. i dont think uwm runs away with this game and i think wright keeps it at their pace.

yea, but you never know with these smaller schools...sometimes those movements mean nothing and do nothing more than attract money on the over...gl

way too many fouls and free throws in the 2nd half. too low of a total to withstand a march to the FT line by both teams.

wright state really had a chance to steal what would have been a huge win.

up by 11 with 5:00 left and lose by 7. thats pretty damn bad.

1-1 for the day.

looking forward to the coming weeks games.
