Auburn's defense the past few years has had more to do with talent than Chizik. Auburn has recruited phenominal talent and speed on the defensive side of the football, as that is usually Tuberville's top priority in recruiting, being a former DC himself. Not discounting Chizik, he has done a great job at Auburn. But look at the talent AU has had in the past few years. Torbor, Dansby, D. Thomas, Rosegreen, Rogers, etc.

Chizik is definitely a good pick-up for Texas, but I don't see him making a huge impact next season. Vince Young will probably have more to do with longhorns winning next season than anything else.

In any event, he will be gone as soon as a head coaching job comes open. He has big aspirations to be a head coach eventually.

Auburn has had tons of talent and speed on D the past few years, but most importantly they knew how to tackle.

Coach Chizik will make sure UT is fundamentally sound next year. The new Texas D and vince young will be enough to get them past OU next year, but who will their new bump in the road be? Probably A&M.

I picked up something this year about SEC refs and the OB confirmed it. SEC refs let the defense get away with a lot of stuff. During the OB, both USC and OU DB's were all over the WR's on countless plays. Both sides. OBVIOUS PI fouls but no calls. Now in the Pac 10, the refs LOVE to throw the flags. Maybe the SEC defenses are not so great if they played in a conf. that calls every ticky tack foul. Hard to have great passing attack if DB's are allowed to be all over the WR.

I agree AU's defense had great players. 2 years ago AU had the best LB corps. Fun to watch.

Or maybe they call penalties in the Pac 10 so that the offenses look better? Kind of like the joke the NFL has become for defenses. Bottom line is you have to adapt to the officials.

WOW that makes what Jason Campbell did this past year even more impressive (70% completion and 173 QB rating) while having to battle opposing defenses and referees that wouldn't throw flags.

What conference officiated the Kickoff Classic? I remember them being a little flag-happy on one play in particular.
