its taken almost two months, but etsu is finally starting to show at least some signs of life. for awhile, they didnt even remotely resemble the squad from last year. a few injuries and graduation can will do that. but there was no reason for them to be struggling as much as they were (and still are) when youve got a player of smith's caliber.
heres why i think etsu is starting to play better:
i think its because tim smith is taking LESS shots.
to start the season, he was trying to carry the team on his shoulders, and he was attempting 20+ shots a game and nobody else was getting involved. for awhile, i believe he had more turnovers than assists which is godawful. just looking now, and hes got a 64/57 A/TO ratio. nowhere near what it should be, but hes actually improved on it recently. and with the speed he plays at, some turnovers at inevitable.
the last few games, he's only taking 13 or 14 shots a game and is getting the ball to his teammates a helluva lot more.
i really dont think the north side of the conference is all that tough. with a win here, etsu gets a chance to really make up some ground with a game at chattanooga on saturday. thats gonna be a far tougher game than this one. im not sure if etsu can hang in that game, but theres no doubt they are capable of winning tonight and i think they should get this one. greensboro isnt a particularly disciplined team and they turn it over a ton and dont shoot the ball well from the stripe of from 3pt range. its a winnable game for etsu.
