kent state flashes 1st half (-3.5)

if the scheduling was a little better for this game, id be really hammering kent for both the 1st half and the game. the only reason im just gonna keep it as a normal play is because i dont like the fact that kent is playing their 5th game in 11 days. i have no clue why the hell kent takes these mid-season non-conference games every year. playing a meaningless game vs IPFW in the middle of a tough stretch of mac games does little to help the flashes and it forces them to play what (tonight) will be their 3rd game in 5 days.

the schedule is the only thing that might save buffalo because kent has absolutely owned the bulls in the MAAC Center recently. bulls have struggled to even be competitive. obviously bulls are a better team now, but guys like turner battle have been in the buffalo program for awhile now and they gotta have nightmares of this place.

kent might be one of the best 1st half home teams in mid-major basketball, if not the country. they just jump on you from the opening tip, seem to knock down a couple 3s, force some turnovers, and then theyre up 10-12 before the visitor has a chance to settle in. kent's last two home games were perfect examples of this. emich and miami both came in with solid teams that were capable of competing. but ksu jumped on both early (led miami by double-digits before the 2nd media timeout, led eastern michigan by double-digits right after the 2nd media timeout) and then put it on cruise control from there.

kent likely to have a sour taste in their mouth after getting ripped a new one by wmu and ohio on the road last week. MAAC Center should provide some nice home cooking and the bulls might be taking another one on the chin here.

just hate the # of gms kent has played within the last week and thats all thats keeping this from being a bigger play

ohio bobcats (-2)

in a rush, so will add more to this thread in an hour or so.

records are similar for both cmu and ohio, but i just think these are two teams that might be going in opposite directions. before the season started, i thought central michigan would be the worst team in the mac. for awhile, they were playing respectable basketball. but theres really nothing good about that team. theyre just bad news. ohio is nothing special at all, but since the calendar changed to 2005, theyve been showing some signs of coming around. theyeve lost their last two on the road by a combined 4 points but are most recently coming off an absolute destruction of kent state in athens on saturday. im hoping that carries over into tonights game. ohio led that one by 10 at halftime and then scored the first 17 points of the 2nd half to build a 27 point lead. theyve also shot 49%+ from the floor in 3 of their last 4 games. i know this is pretty much a garbage game between two non-contenders in the mac. but even though the bobcats havent won on the road this season, i think vegas set an accurate line by making them the short favorite because theyre a better team than cmu and theyre playing pretty confident basketball right now.

yep. no doubt. im not touching eastern michigan games for awhile because the status of bowler is really touch and go. when you cant count on your leading scorer to bring it every night, it makes it pretty difficult for them as a team (and certainly for bettors too).

lips:

cant say i see anything fishy with the akron line. zips are young and still havent learned how to finish games on the road. but theyve become a great home team who defends their court in a big way. marshall is much better than their record, but theyre just not pulling games out either. they put themselves in position to win, but cant get over the hump. i think its a coin flip game, so naturally i think the pk line is dead on (or akron -1 in some spots). dont have enough confidence in either team to make a play. i will say that akron has done a damn good job of playing without wood since he went down with the acl injury. most teams would have folded the tent but it seems that only brought them together more. dambrot deserves a shitload of credit for getting that team to play as hard as they are. marshall has some size that could give akron trouble, and thats one of the main reasons why i cant back the zips tonight.

Well, I respectfully disagree with the OU pick. You are asking a lot out of the 'cats when playing them on the road. CMU is bad, there is no doubt about it, but they are still capable of defending their home court.

BTW, Pretty big number on the Miami total tonight, don't you think ? EMU can be defended and Charlie would love to slow them down.

Go Zips!

saw that you were likin cmich. dont like it when have conflicting takes on these mac games. this is about as winnable a road game as OU is gonna have. this game will tell me a lot about em.

as far as emu goes, i dont know if im comin' or goin' and don't know which way is up with those sons of bitches. its one of those contrast of style games that is tough to figure out. emich is really lame defensively though and thats why i cant trust em to go under any number.

and i second the 'go zips!'. no money on that one for me, but really would like to see em put a nice run together.

Actually you should feel quite good about being on the other side of one of my plays :142lmao:

After a smokin Nov and Dec I have had a rather horrific January. For your amusement only here is my card tonight 1/2 unit on all. Don't see anything worth muscleing up on tonight. The way things have been going 3-3 would be an imrovement.

CMU
EMU
EMU/ Miami under
WMU
Akron/ Marshall over
LSU

Good luck tonight sir.

Wow, The Zips , sluggish out of the gate, are in the midst of a 20- 0 run. Almost the mirror image of the first half of the EMU game. Just hope they finish better.

you are absolutely correct. they came out and hit 4 of their first 17. but they closed the half on a big run, and the crowd really got into it in the final 5:00. flashes started to force some turnovers and the seized control of the game. if flashes didnt come out with blindfolds on in the first 7 or 8:00, they would be up 6 or 8 points at half. while im not playing the 2nd half, i think they do cover that 2h line.

Great call on OU. sorry to clutter your thread with such a pathetic string of losses. I do however think its official, the Zips are legit Mac east contenders.

I'm pondering retirement........
