Well, sure enough i just got my first notice in the mail for jury duty. i am thinking they got me by one of two ways: i recently moved into new york and set up residence, that could be it; or i just recently voted for the first time..........
either way, i am debating about whether or not to request for my first postponement or not. I have a month to decide. its for the supreme court of the state of new york, thing is i dont want to get stuck in a month long trial.

Just my opinion, but it is our duty and privilege to serve on jury duty. I encourage you to show up, but it is obviously your choice as an American citizen.

Ignore the mailing if you wish.

How does anybody know you received it unless it's sent certified or by a dude with a badge? :jerkit:

you should go. Just think if it was you being tried in front of the Supreme Court of New York. Wouldn't you want someone like yourself in the jury pool, with your life on the line ?

On second thought. You could always say the dog ate your homework.

i could just see u in the jury room. "Guys what are the odds he really did it. i will say -250 he really didn't do it."
Good luck wood, my mom one time had a murder trial and it did not last as long as you would expect.

...got to agree with dawgball here. It is your duty as an American citizen. So, suck it up and go perform your duty.....

BTW, if your jury pool is like most 've seen, any signs of intelligence on your part and one of the two lawyers will dismiss you from the panel....

You probably got selected from your voting registration. I haven't voted for years, gave it up for a lack of any honest candidates, and I don't see the pedigree of corruption in politicians changing anytime soon.

If you really want to sit in a chair and listen to overpaid people in business suits argue a court case, all while you're raking in a hefty $35 dollars a day, then go for it. Maybe $35 a day will reimburse you for what you lost on a normal day at work, but I doubt it.

You can ignore the mailing, if they really press, then make up some phony racial remarks or claim you're hard of hearing, followed by a steady diet of "what...could you repeat that..." (they don't want deaf jurors)and if it still looks like you're going to sit in the lowest paying seat in the court, then have them excuse you because you have heard too much about the case and think the guy's guilty...

You could always mention that you believe in public lynchings which I am sure will get you excused. :scared Seriously though, I have to admit I have ignored that last several jury duty notices. Twice I have been on a jury and both times death was involved. One civil, one criminal. Personally, being in judgement of another human being in that situation is something I can do without.
