I posted this two years ago. Since the 1970 there has been eight times when the home teams swept the conference semi-finals.
The results of the conference finals:
1973
MIAMI 27-10 Oakland
Minnesota 27-10 DALLAS
1974
MINNESOTA 14-10 Los Angeles
Pittsburgh 24-13 OAKLAND
1988
CINCINNATI 21-10 Buffalo
San Francisco 28-3 CHICAGO
1990
BUFFALO 51-3 L.A. Raiders
N.Y. Giants 15-13 SAN FRANCISCO
1991
BUFFALO 10-7 Denver (covered spread)
WASHINGTON 41-10 Detroit
1994
San Diego 17-13 PITTSBURGH
SAN FRANCISCO 38-28 Dallas
1998
Atlanta 30-27 MINNESOTA
DENVER 23-10 N.Y. Jets
2002
Tampa Bay 27-10 PHILADELPHIA
OAKLAND 41-24 Tennessee
Seven out of eight years a road team won straight up. One road team and one home team got the money seven of eight with one year being a push. Eight out of eight teasing both home teams was a losing proposition.
Seems everyone is looking at these games in the same ways. This is a little different and has worked in the past. With the home teams all winning in the semi's it seems to sway the general public to both home teams. Ignoring NFL history can be foolish and if some of you did not read my post last week it has proven results.
Last week I told you teams with conference road revenge in the semis were 1-13 staight up. If you won by exactly 3 in the wildcard game you were 4-0 ats make it 5-0 with the Jets. If you lost by anything but 3 you were 0-8 straight up and ats losing by an average score of 31.3 to 10.7. If I would have told you New England was going to win 20-3 you would have said I was nuts. Atlanta 47-17, Phili 27-13, New England 20-3. AVERAGE SCORE between the three games=31.3 to 11
Some of you who believe in NFL history might want to keep this for years to come.
Couple of trends for you NFC Superbowl representative the last 22 years had a winning record on the road. Falcons 4-4 Eagles 6-2
No team has ever won the Superbowl if they lost to Tampa Bay in the regular season.
Atlanta trend this year on the road. Two road games got routed 56-10 two road games next road game routed 24-0 two road games next at Phili?
Every 6-7 games this year the Falcons have got embarassed leaving you shaking your head is this really the same team that played the last few games. Well we are at 6 games right now and it is just question whether that game comes today or in the Superbowl.

Looks like a Patriotic Superbowl to me.
