new england has dominated the league the last two years and for whatever reason, they still dont get the respect they deserve. tom brady is the best quarterback in the nfl, but theres no doubt in my mind that people are hesistant to give him that label simply because he was a 6th round pick. how many times does he have to show incredible poise in big games and put the ball where it needs to be when it counts most?

the ironic part of new england's lack of respect?

they should FINALLY get it after they take care of philly in the super bowl in 2 weeks.

theyll finally get the credit they deserve heading into next season.

...... but when theyre finally recognized as a dominant team, theres a good chance they could struggle to win more than 10 games next year. not that a 10-win season is anything to be ashamed of.

but if everything about crennel to cleveland is true, theyre gonna lose one of the best offensive minds in football to notre dame and at the same time lose they guy who played a pivotal role in new england's defense the last 4 or 5 years.

for now, might as well ride the new england money train one more time because im not sure if theres gonna be a whole lot of chances to win money on new england next season.

kind of a shame, because then if they do only win 10 games or so, people will come back and say "see... they were nothing special".

but i think the loss of weis and expected loss of crennel is gonna really cause the pats to regress next season.

Not so fast. If you are so sure then take your bankroll and put it on NE ML. I'll be on the other side. I hope people don't think Philly will be awe-struck by NE. NE has had every little thing go thier way in the playoffs and it's going to be different on Super Bowl Sunday. ANd Blitz, make sure you bookmark this post so you can paste it when Philly pastes them, pal.

Your right, they have gotten every break possible, they didn't earn either victory over the best Offense or the best Defense...

you have to be impressed with how the pats handily beat both the colts & the steelers.

also have to be impressed that n.e. doesn't make mental mistakes or commit turnovers.

even with losing both of thei coordinators still think that the pats will be fighting for the title next year....because they will still have bellichek.

i always thought that vince lombardi was the best by far....his teams won 5 straight championships in the 60's....& everybody was a distant 2nd. but now i got to put bellichek right up there with vince.

you might want to actually watch the playoffs without the blindfold over your eyes.

patriots have gotten every break?

um, it appears to me that they have dominated the #1 offense and the #1 defense in consecutive weeks.

never even said im betting new england for the SB. probably wont even bet the super bowl. but simply feel new england will take care of their business.

Bellichek will go down as one of the greats in most people's minds considering what he has done with this pats team. Hard to see how philly can beat them if the pats continue to play the way they have been. AR, your system trend definitely has me looking at the pats for a third straight week and after observing the large wins by previous champs in SB's, although 7 is a decent number to cover, it still looks quite appealing.

Okay G, I have to stand firm on that one. They HAVE got alot of breaks. That doesn't mean they're not a great team, because they are. They've done many things right and the breaks they've got couldn't hurt. Let's look at one example. Vanderjerk. 40-some straight made FG's, and he chokes in NE and Indy loses the opener. Of course this is all hindsight but say Indy tied and won that one. Then we're looking at NE AT Indy, 2nd round. And please don't say the result would have been the same in the dome.

Second, and I never played the game yesterday, I played the Eagles game only. Pittsburgh. NE played good, I wouldn't say outstanding, but it was more of Pittsburgh killing themselves than anything else. Before the game I said to myself 'whoever wins the turnover battle wins this'. Well, Roethlisberger is green, he's a rookie, he made too many mistakes. It's all been said about him before I know. What I'm getting at is that NE has had a fairly easy road to the Superbowl. It's true! They beat a weak Indianapolis team who was too scared to take any chances and a Pittsburgh team with a rookie QB and a coach who was outclassed, and called the game far too conservatively. (that FG call was atrocious, because if you don't think you can get in from the two, what makes you think you're going to convert a 2 point conversion later? Why not take a shot and even if you don't get it, you pin NE isnside the 5)

Anyways, I'm not saying NE isn't any good because they are. But that line, 7, my god... That is WAY too high. Philly's defense is the one getting no respect now. Gosh, Brady throws two lucky bombs to Branch and a green-horn practically hands them the game and suddenly NE is an offensive juggernaut. I'm not buying :)

Here's the key, and everyone knows this. DEFENSE. Philly has a defense as formidable, but faster, than NE. There is NO WAY New England blows Philly out.

I would never diss you Gman I've read many of your posts and I know you're a great capper. TC.

I thought the browns deal was a done deal just needed to have it signed after season is over for pats??

i understand where youre coming from. i agree about the season opener. that might have changed the seeding, but more importantly changed indy's psyche. colts dont think they can beat NE right now.

as for the game result if it was in indy. no way new england holds the colts to 3 pts in indy. still think the patriots win, but woulda been something like 27-21 or 27-24.

i agree the super bowl line is high. thats why im not playing new england. linesmaker finally respects the pats again. just doesnt seem like the majority of football fans do.

also agree that philly wont get blown out. thats not gonna happen. i think new england wins by 10 or 13 but philly will always be in striking distance.

fletcher:

yeah is basically a done deal, although grimm from pittsburgh was high on their list too so had pittsburgh (hypothetically) won convincingly yesterday, i think browns might have re-considered. but yeah - all theyre really doing is waiting for new england's season to end to make it official now.

has anyone looked at ne strategy in the playoffs ? gte ahead and stay ahead. i would love to see them play with some adversity, but they dictate the game to their opponent. no disrespect to philly, who have they played that resembles ne ? they will not have the luxury of putting 8-9 guys on the line of scrimmage against ne. ne has been talking run, run, run, but they have been taking shots early - deep. then running with the lead.

either way, i hate the pats, but they just don't make mistakes. twice they fumbled last night , but pitt could get neither. the only chance philly has is pressuring brady. t.light is beatable, but if you don't brady than you will be hurt. def / special teams will have to score for philly because i do not think the off will do better 17pts. jmo

So. Cal
yeah

ne get's lucky
ne gets the breaks
ne plays nobody (as opposed to the juggernauts the eagles beat)
ne isn't that good
ne offense isn't that good
ne defense isn't that good
ne coaches aren't that good
etc, etc, etc,

a NE money-line bet would have given you a winning ticket 32 of the last 34 games....THAT'S 32 WINNERS AND 2 LOSERS.....a total joke.

had you been scared by money line wagers, just betting NE on the spread would have gotten you winners in 26 of the last 33 games....THAT'S 26 WINNER AND 7 LOSERS.....another total joke.

if you're a gambler (and last i checked this was a gambling forum) it DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS........EVER.

My bank account THANKS

When they beat the Raiders it was on a blown call.
When they beat the Steelers it was a lucky special teams play.
When they beat the Rams it was just luck...still, won the Super Bowl.
This was all brought to life when they went 9-7 in '02, and missed the playoffs.
2003:
14-2 Reg Season.
#1 seed.
Won Superbowl.
2004:
14-2 Reg Season.
#2 seed.
This is only the 2nd time in league history that a defending Super Bowl champion has won 14 games.
The win streak reached 21 games total and 18 regular season games.
AFC Champs.

What a lucky team.

Maybe I listen/read different things, but I've heard a lot of people on the radio around here comparing this Patriots team to the Packers in the late 60's. Belicheck is being mentioned with Lombardi and Brady is getting the Bart Star comparisons all the time. Also, the term "dynasty" has been thrown around a lot. I can't think of getting much more respect than that.

Not saying they don't deserve it, but I do think they are getting respect.
