this system is sound in principle, and has been used in connection with line moves and comparisons as well as power ratings. it's great that you've come across a power rating system that's worked so well over 100+ trials. the problem with power ratings is that teams evolve over the course of the season, and sometimes power ratings keep up, and sometimes they don't.
this time of year, you can get some fairly current comparisons from recent games because of the conference play. i use this approach a lot to tell is anything funky is going on withth line.
with regards to west virgina and bc, both have played at providence lately. bc was a pick'em on 1/26, while w va was catching six points on 1/29. give bc aout four points for home court today and the line comes out to about -10, at least by the numbers vegas used for these teams within the last week.
