I did the updates for spybot and now when I run it I get like 41 problems found where I used to consistently get like 25 problems found. The problem I have now is when I go to fix the problems it works for like the first 6 then my computer screen completely goes blank and I have to turn the power off to re- start the computer. So in essence when I run spybot now after the downloaded updates it just seems to give me a blank screen.

Try booting in safe mode and then running spybot. You can usually get into safe mode by hitting F6 or F8 while booting.

How to boot into safe mode
Booting is when the computer is turning on. (When the power button is pressed)
To get into Windows 98 / ME safe mode as the computer is booting you press and hold your "F8 key" on the top of your keyboard or press and hold the left or right Ctrl key as the computer is booting.
Once in safe mode try running Spybot again
