all the 'experts' surely can't be wrong. philly is just going to roll over for the patriots.
people are quickly forgetting the one thing that can have the most tremendous effect on the outcome of a game: MOTIVATION.
just as new england felt disrespected at certain points this season, nobody is feeling that way more than the philadelphia eagles are right now.
and why shouldn't they be? with virtually everyone and their parakeet all but handing the lombardi trophy to the patriots, the eagles find themselves in a position the patriots have used so many times before to light a fire under their asses.
UNDERDOG. NO CHANCE. GREATEST SHOW ON TURF. REMEMBER? DEJA VU, baby.
try this one on: ripe for the picking. remember that? take a hike, vanderjagoff. freddie mitchell? let's not even GO there. i'm glad he probably got a big time scolding for running his mouth and was silenced while there was still time for his comments to be somewhat dissolved from the patriots' minds.
if new england is the offensive juggernaut people say they are, how did they score a PALTRY 20 points against that soft Indy D? i had indy in that one and knew i was suckered the minute i saw the snow flying. oh, they scored 40-some against pitt, you say? they were handed a good portion of those points and gained some more after it was long decided. pitt packed that game in before halftime. they choked on their own vomit. they were PETRIFIED. THE KNEW IT WAS OVER BECAUSE THEY LET IT BE OVER.
dillion had a few nice runs after the damage was already done and pitt looked beaten. they really, really looked deflated, like a team that KNEW it just wasn't meant to be on that particular night.
now don't get me wrong, new england won those games and they deserved to win those games. but, like a day when you're pulling in a largemouth every other cast and your thumb is shredded raw from catching so many, the conditions have to be just right...and they were for new england. in can't possibly hurt that they're a great team like they are. but i just see some things going phillys way. some non-handicappable variables that people just don't expect.
the philly defense is going to BRING it and bring it LARGE. they absolutely have to in order to win this. one of mr. brady's weaknesses is his immobility. they guy can't scramble. he usually gets rid of the ball quickly but holds on for extended periods at times, or makes an ill-advised throw when pressured. that is the KEY to rattling tom brady. you MUST get pressure on him and i truly believe that the eagles can.
miami did it to him, and so did pittsburgh. unfortunately pittsburgh could not get that pressure on him when it counted the second time around because mr. bellichick made some great adjustments.
that is why i absolutely love the matchup of kearse vs. uhhhh..what his name again? kearse is reborn with philly and has been waiting his whole life for a chance like this. he will impress. philly is going to have 8 men up front with trotter anchoring to stop mr. dillon while dawkins, sheppard and company take care of the rest. i see brady throwing at least one INT in this game.
on offense they are going to keep new england guessing and westbrook is going to get his yards, no question. westbrook led the league in yards-per-touch with 1515 total yards for an average of 6.1 EVERY TIME HE TOUCHED THE BALL. so please don't say new england is going to silence him. philadelphia is 22-1 over the last two seasons when westbrook touches the ball at least 10 times.
new england will try to blitz mcnabb and that's where they will get burned and we finally see that secondary give up some yards in large chunks.. if they sit back and wait for mcnabb and company to make mistakes and give them hand-outs, they will be sorely dissapointed. mcnabb will have so many options, it's really going to come down to the decisions he makes. here's hoping he can take the agony of 3 championship losses and channel it into one hell of a football game.
ps:
PHILADELPHIA DOES NOT NEED TERRELL OWENS TO BEAT NEW ENGLAND. Brian Westbrook is far more important to this team with all things considered (TO injury, hobbled, decoy, who knows) and people don't seem to be grasping that concept.. he will be a key to this game and i even expect to see him return a few punts as well to give the special teams some added spark.
i want to tell everyone on this board, regardless of your side, that you have my utmost respect and these are just my opinions. i wish everyone the best of luck and best of times on super-bowl sunday and may everyone stay safe, enjoy the game, and KEEP THE NEST EGG under the matress! (especially if you are laying the 7, har-har)
eagles +7.5 primary
eagles +238 ml secondary
