Their ideology has not changed, in my opinion. I highly doubt that anyone who has followed the propaganda of the extremeist wing of the Islamic movement before 9/11 (i.e., very, very few Americans) would say that the message or ideology has changed. They want legitimate governments (i.e., NOT Saudi Arabia) in Muslim coutries ruled by Islamic law. They want the U.S. to cease interfering in these interests, specifically as it regards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

I'd say the tone of bin Laden's messages has been far more temperate lately, but the overal ideology remains the same.

By the way, that Churchill quote is idiotic political rhetoric. Crocodiles don't eat unless they're hungry. "Terrorists" don't attack unless you provoke them. That's the truth.

I thought the article was interesting. Thanks, as always Nick, but in rebuttal the dictionary definition of Terrorist is: one that promotes Terrorism.

The dictionary definition of Terrorism is: The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.

Jesus. By using that definition, the majority of the civilized world would consider the Bush Administration the world's foremost terrorist organization.

I think terrorism is more fairly defined by ignoring the rules of war and attacking civilians for the purposes of forwarding an ideological or political agenda. I would wholeheartedly consider suicide bus bombers in Israel and WTC attackers terrorists. When you talk about suicide bombers in Iraq who attack police forces, that is a tougher call.

The article is interesting, but I would wager dollars to doughnuts that the author did not closely follow the militant Islamic movement before and since the WTC and Pentagon attacks. The message from bin Laden and the rest of the lowlifes that work with him has remained the same, to me it is just a change in tone.
