recently me and my wife have refinished our basement and now are looking to get a big screen hdtv television system for our entertainment center. does anyone have any experience with the home entertainment projectors. if so can you give us the pro's/con's of these systems. does the picture quality compare to the televisions? do you need a darkened room to view the picture? what other hardware are we going to need if we go this way?

thankyou in advance

They are pretty intuitive now. You do not need a dark room, and there is a feature on most of the newer models where you can project at any angle and it will fix the screen to be square. You can get a good one for around $1,000 but you can go WAY up from there.

You shouldn't need any additional hardware beside your cable/satellite provider box.

I retract all comments. I have zero experience with HDTV projectors. My comments were for projectors that are not compatible with HDTV.

You need to first figure out what type of TV you are looking for. Rear Projection, DLP, LCD, Plasma?

If you get a rear projection TV (The real big box) then you cannot sit on the side of the TV because it makes the picture real dark and it is not enjoyable...I would recommend getting a DLP screen depending on how much you want to spend. You can get a nice one for about 3k. There is no glare on a DLP, the colors are beautiful, and when its in HD it is sick. Nicer than a projection TV's monitor in HD. You really cant go wrong with a DLP, LCD, or Plasma...just matters what you want to spend.

I wouldnt recommend a Projection TV because they are suppose to stop manufacturing them next year I believe. I would stick to the newer technology...its worth the money.

Hope this helps, dont have time to go into a ton of detail. Just know it gets frustrating because there is so much out there and you dont know what to get. Took me 6 months to get the TV I have. Its a Toshiba 52" DLP screen, weighs 82lbs...awesome
