Outright plays (total stake per play: 2pts)

Bruce Fleisher to win 22/1 e.w. @ BetInternet
If Fleisher is showing any form, he is worth backing at these odds on this course. From 1999 to 2003, he finished in the top-3 every time, winning on two occasions and it was only a second-round 74 that denied him the chance to continue that run last year. With a record of top-15 finishes in each of his three starts this year and an improvement in his leaderboard position in each of those final rounds, the omens are good that he will return to his top-3 ways at the TPC of Tampa Bay.

Wayne Levi to win 22/1 e.w. @ BetInternet
Levi does not have the course form to match Fleisher, though he had been 4th with one round to play on his debut in 2003, but in terms of current form, he is a player to back. A top-5 finish in each of his first two events was followed by even better performance last week when, as a selection, he was joint leader on the final tee. The less said about what happened next the better, but he is clearly a player in form and is worth backing at these odds.

Tom Jenkins to win 40/1 e.w. @ BetInternet and Victor Chandler
The winner of the last event of 2004 to be played in Florida, Jenkins also has an impressive record in this event. In six previous visits, his worst finish has been 16th and even then he was very highly placed until a final round 75 in his rookie year on this Tour. So with top-20 finishes in each of his three starts this year and a closing 66 on Sunday, he is another who seems to be playing well enough to repeat his previous performances at the TPC of Tampa Bay.

Matchup plays (2pts):

Hale Irwin to beat Craig Stadler +105 @ Five Dimes
Hard to see why Stadler is such a strong favourite this match. Apart from his 14th place finish in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic on the PGA Tour, he has been considerably below his best this year and only managed to finish 13th last year. Irwin has finished ahead of him in both common events this year and has finished in the top-10 on this course in all but one year since 1996.

Gary McCord to beat Mike McCullough -135 @ Five Dimes
McCullough edges the course form, but other than his 4th place finish last week, he has been playing poorly with his previous top-10 back in June 2004. McCord finished 18 shots ahead of him in their only common event this year and is the far more consistent player.

Don Reese to beat Tom Purtzer +105 @ Five Dimes
Will take these odds on a player who has finished ahead in both their common events this year. Purtzer may have course experience, but he has not been at his best since April last year and Reese has already shown himself to be quite a prospect on this Tour.

Outrights - FINAL RESULT: 0-3; -6.00pts

Fleisher 25th
Levi 6th
Jenkins 25th

Yet another weather-disrupted event and a farcical Monday finish. It was not until the end of Levi's 2nd round on Saturday that he was informed that the Tour were considering making the event a 36-holer. And he was not best pleased in the interviews after his round as he would have played very differently had there been even a suggestion that the Tour would take this route. It gave those players who finished on Monday a huge advantage and gradually enough of them caught Levi (and Hatalsky, the leader on Saturday night) to knock him out of the top-5 paying places. Had hoped for better from Jenkins and Fleisher who had been 3rd and 8th after the 1st round, but this event descended into farce.

Matchups - FINAL RESULT: 1-1-1; +0.10pts

Irwin/Stadler WON by 6
McCord/McCullough TIED (Push)
Reese/Purtzer LOST by 4

A total of six players did not come back on Monday to complete their second round and McCord might just well have done. He gave on this event, dropping shots in five of six holes at the end of his second round and what looked a comfortable victory only just managed a push.
