This is something I heard from a friend and I was wondering if anyone else knew about it, but he told me that the 1904 NY Giants refused to play in the world series.. but he didn't give me a reason as to why! so my question is this:

Why did the 1904 NY Giants refuse to play in the World Series?

I would have to cheat to get the specific answer but I am pretty sure the AL team was the Boston Americans (Red Soxs) who were defending champions so perhaps it had something to do with them. Not sure since it's been awhile since I read 'Red Sox Century' and it's at my parents house.

Bar trivia:
2 men in the baseball hall of fame, had no affiliation with the game.
Ans - Abbot and Costello
Jim Piersall hit 100th home run and circled the bases third, second, first, home and it counted. Of course there were no men on.

Well I was pretty close. I remember in the book they showed a picture of the 1905 Boston Americans "World Champions." Hard to see how a team with Cy Young, Jimmy Collins, Chick Stahl was minor league. 'Red Sox Century' is a excellent book I would highly recommend.
