it should go without saying that im not really one to hype plays and go overboard with excessive adjectives for big plays. ive already had my mac game of year and mac total of the year both hit earlier this season. so in the truest sense, its not possible to have another 'game of the year'. but i am playing this play as big as anything ive played in the mac this season. so its a GOY-type play and i expect it to hit just like the others.
kent state flashes (-4)
VERY big.
this game comes down to pride, not to mention a loss would send kent on the road for the 1st round of the mac tournament.
ohio took kent to the woodshed in athens in mid-january. bobcats led by 10 at halftime and then started the 2nd half on a 17-0 run en route to a 26 point blowout.
flashes come in off their most embarrassing effort in recent memory (the 70-45 drubbing in miami where they trailed 42-11 at halftime and went 2 of 22 from the field in the 1st half for an unheard of 9%)
theres no doubt kent has been inconsistent this season. and at times, theyve certainly burned some money. but this program has way too much pride to not atone for arguably the two worst losses in the last handful of years of kent state basketball. their streak of six straight 20-win seasons is in jeopardy without a win here. and if they somehow drop this game, they wont even get a home game in the opening round of the tourney, which is unheard of for a team that is used to earning byes straight to the quarterfinals in cleveland.
nothing is guaranteed. but if kent doesnt cover here, then i will seriously question my capping ability in this conference. ohio is not a good road group and kent should be out to bury this team.
also think marshall is the way to go on saturday afternoon as well. miami is playing to clinch the outright mac championship but marshall has been a pain in miami's ass for the last two or three years. marshall has had a dismal season but they match up well with miami and it shouldnt be a surprise if they keep this close enough to win.
already know what im playing in the horizon, but will wait for the opening numbers to be posted. won the lone horizon play on friday with detroit under 120.5. glad i wasnt around to play anything at halftime of the uic/loyola game. flames really choked that game away and that loss was a fitting end to a season that failed to live up to expectations. true to late-season form, uic couldnt get the stops when they needed them, and letting schilb go off for 39 means they deserve to watch the rest of the tourney from home.
