I have spent the last 2 days at work screwing with this ..........I log on to AOL or Netscape on my dial-up modem and after awhile (3-5 minutes) I start getting these IE popups thats says I have spyware, warning etc,etc...........but when I try to x out these pages I just keep getting more pages that wont go away unless I restart my computer..........I run spysweeper and spybot and it says I have no problems....just a few cookies I erase..........sometimes I will be running spysweeper and while it is in the middle of running it stops and I hit con-alt-del and it says my spysweeper is not responding.........so the only way out of this is to shut down my computer and start over.........I have uninstalled aol then re-installed to no avail. and I have the same problem when I get connected using netscape.......I have windows 98 and 56k dial up on the computer.......any suggestions would be appreciated........

search for "HiJack this" on the net. It's a free download, then install it.

Shut down your computer and restart it in "Safe Mode". Open and run "HiJack This"

The program will find all the programs that are causing you trouble. You can then eliminate them. Be carfull deleting everything....only the programs that you cannot identify.

Other programs that may help you: Adaware (free), CWShredder (free).

Maverick...just when your computer restarts, push the F8 key at the top of your keyboard. When the computer starts, use the arrow keys to navigate up or down to find 'Safe Mode"....highlight safe mode and then hit "enter". Your computer will start and you can find HiJack This.....then run it conventionally.

To return to normal operation, go to START then restart the computer. It will boot regularly.

Good Luck

Use another browser. Mozilla Firefox is able to deal whit popups very properly. Since allways IE was/is to open for popups and tracing cookies. If possible change the ISP. AOL is ****ing around to much with your connection. A lot of the filters they are using cause troubles.

Popups are caused by spyware yah may need to try a popup stopper. Recent versions of IE have this built in but I'm not sure if it's available if your windows is as old as that. But seriously, get rid of IE, it sucks in more ways than one!!! Get adaware too, in conjunction with spybot.
