I probably will post in the political forum but I had my second friend and former officer/bunkmate get killed last week in Iraq.

That marks two friends of mine to die in this conflict...I went to last wake/memorial service-I will not be going to this one. I can not take it any more.

A lot of you who know me over the years know that I served -I was discharged after being wounded-I lost most of my sight in my left eye-on days like this I feel like a jackass feeling sorry about my eye when guys I served with are now dead...It seems like a different lifetime ago-almost like I was never in those situations, even though I was...I am sick of arguing that right and wrongs of this "war"... I avoid reading the paper in case I read another name of another soldier I know appears anyway....I just want everyone to know that there are guys like me and YOu out there--and they are gamblers/sports guys/fun loving guys and some never get the chance to enjoy a little thing like wagering ever again because they lost their life at 19 years old...it makes me sick....I said my piece for the night.....take care everyone.........

Very sorry to hear this sad news worm. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I am an army veteran who has also lost friends close to me fighting for the freedom of others. My best friend, who had been paralyzed from gunfire, passed away a year ago February from a stroke and kidney failure due primarily to war injuries suffered years ago. We were"best man" in each others' weddings and godfathers for our children. It hurts to lose someone so close to you. I empathize with you on losing your two close friends. I believe there's a special place in heaven for those who make the ultimate sacrifice. May God watch over the survivors of his family and all our troops in harms way.

Ditto........Very well, said!

Worm,
Thank you for your service to our country and for all those who have fought for freedom! I can tell from the context of your post you are not happy.....however, myself and many of my good friends who have never had to "fight" to preserve our liveliyhood, DO APPRECIATE yours all the others sacrifices. Certainely it is difficult for me to understand the closeness of your loss, nonetheless, I want you to realize there are countless others like me who respect your decision to serve and protect our way of life. God Bless you and your Brothers in Arms :grouphug:

Vanished into vortex
I could stand on the soap box next to you in my distain for everything that is going on over there, but thats for another place and time. Suffice to say I have good friends who have served, are serving and some retired from service, it's a different path they choose, they are different people from most of us. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY wants to loose someone like this, but there is some comfort in knowing they chose this walk of life for a reason and died in service to our country.
I am sure he will be sadly missed as all who die this way should be.
Take care Worm.
