marquette (-2) over wmu

i always want to see the mac do well whenever they get some national tv exposure, but im not counting on a good showing from wmu tonight, even against a deiner-less marquette team. on paper, the matchup isnt all that bad for the broncos; they have the size inside to compete and reed is capable of getting hot and going for 20. but this team regressed as the season went on. they pretty much won the mac west by defeault and backed into a mac tourney bye because the western division was so mediocre this year. wmu started the season 13-3, but finished the season just 6-9 (including 1-6 in their final 7 road games). broncos scheduling isnt all that favorable either. played an overtime game against akron thursday, then blew a 2nd half lead friday night in the 9:30 game and now are back on the road 2 days later to play in the opening round of the nit. marquette is no prize, but they still outclassed toledo in this exact spot last year (monday nit game on espn) and even sans deiner, theyll do it to wmu. even if the eagles are playin in a half-empty arena, i still dont see wmich sneaking out with a win. broncos are just a lame road team and (if its possible) theyre really undeserving of this nit berth. akron or toledo would have been much better choices to receive these nit bids, and both would have given marquette better games than wmu in my opinion.

Pretty much agree, WMU aint showing up fresh, and that could be a big factor. Reed will need mucho help, and I see little coming from the rest of the Broncs. Their bench sucks, and as discussed before they can be held down by a sound defensive unit.

BTW: I'm off thursday, do you have a line on any cheap Convo tickets ??

i saw elsewhere that anthony richkas posted w mich as his leadoff march madness LOCK. i can't think of anything else that would make you feel better about your marquette play. i'm going with the home team with the short number; that's almost always the right play in the nit. g/l gman.

On the course!
I see the total at 138'

I don't see how it can come close. Marquette is horrible without Deiner, and opponants have just shut down the guards, and the team goes tits up. Playing at the BC won't mean shit, IMO.

If either team hits 64 points, I'll be impressed..........

Take the under, and forget the side in this turd-fest.

Gman,
question... does western mich. full court press a lot? pressure really hurt marquette after diener went down. if they're not a pressing team, i love the marquette pick.

totalwise, first half under 64 appeals to me a little more than the game total in a game that will likely be tight.

Smitty,

Everyone is pressing Marquette now. They can't break it....and they can't fake it!

(Total will be 135 by tip off...........)

yyz, thanks for the input. but i'm trying to find out if that is part of their 'normal' defense. if it's not something they do every game, it won't be nearly as effective.

I don't agree with this Under train going on. I have a strange feeling there will be some points put up 2nite. Don't think the total will drop more then a point.

Over 138 now at +109 at Pinnacle. Rather take this then a 137.

total is a coinflip imo. its almost impossible to handicap because of the 'nit motivation variable' as well as the subtraction of deiner. western michigan can be a tricky team as far as totals go too. sometimes theyll get out and run and play games in the high 70s. other times, they play absolute grinders and the finals end up in the 120s. im not sure they have an indentity this year.

like yyz said, even non-pressing teams have gotten the memo that they can rattle marquette with some pressure. wmu will likely try some of that tonight. but i dont think thats necessarily their style and i dont think they will have their best defensive effort either (playing their 3rd gm in 5 days on the road as well as their 4th straight game away from home overall). broncos are a well-coached team but theyre basically a middle-of-the-pack defensive team in the mac. if this was miami of ohio playing marquette, then i think the defensive pressure could be an issue. but not wmich.

Hey G, when are you going to change that avatar. I know you cannot be that Dorky. This thing rivals PointGuard :mj07: :mj07: . :) :mj14: :mj14:

Anyway, think I'll hook up with Marquette as you sound fairly convinced. Alson going to take the under 1st half.
