I laugh at people who fill-out brackets, when we are....

.....betting thousands of dollars on each game here at Madjacks.

LOL............Johnny and Suzie are worried about their $5 office pool. They couldn't name a player on 61 out of the 65 teams (or even heard of the university before).

The word "bracket-buster" is getting way overused. Me? I don't fill out a bracket because 1- I wager. (a $20 bracket is not gonna cut it for me) Also, 2- I WANT to be wrong. If Oklahoma State, for example, finds itself in a tie game with a minute to go vs. the 15-seed, I am rooting for the 15-seed! (unless I have serious coin on OSU minus the big points or have OSU as a future bet). But Joe Q. Public is rooting for OSU, so it doesn't mess up his/her $10 brackets and their egos get shattered.

Here's why I laugh: the tourney is about "drama"...but........when a 14 beats a 3, everyone who fills out a bracket is mad! haha....

these office pool-people DO NOT root for upsets, and only want the best seeds to advancce, even though they have zero affiliation with the schools.

The only people who should be rooting for all top teams to advance are: 1- gamblers who have money on the favorite or that team as a future bet, 2-any alumni or die-hard fans of a certain team, and 3-those who fill out brackets for BIG BIG BIG BUCKS only.

It cracks me up, and shows how we gamblers are TOTALLY different from mainstream society when I hear some square say "Damn.....I had UCONN going to the Final Four. Now my brackets are ruined because they lost to NC State!"
(just an example)

screw your 5 bucks!

haha

just my thoughts...then again, I am different from most people...LOL
but i think almost all serious gamblers here would tend to agree with me

BIG ORANGE LAND!!
I don't think brackets cause a capper to sway a pick...that is crazy.
Can't see one serious capper sweating a freaking $5 office pool bracket. If they do they deserve to lose.

On the course!
Stag.....I think you are wrong.

For one thing, there might be a handful of the 200 regular posters here who bet "thousands per game". Most probably bet less than a hundy a game, and a vast majority of those, less than 50 per.

The brackets are a nice little contest for most people. Yes, several people have no clue.....that makes it nice for the one's who do! Kinda like the rubes who think they can play poker.

"Most" people, don't give two shits about the point spread, Stag. They are just having some fun.

I've been a gambler ever since my college days at Clemson over 15 years ago, and I still enjoy filling out the brackets. It's not the fact that you put $10 up for an office pool and you may win a couple of hundred bucks, it's the fact that you beat your friends and colleagues at something everyone has an equal chance at winning. To laugh at people who fill out brackets is laughable itself!!

Gambling is fun, but beating people that you know at an eqaul footing game is sometimes just as sweet!!

Just an opinion

ya....i understand your points.
And I agree that "to each his own", and it can be fun, and everybody is not into point spreads, and it has become a spectacle like the Super Bowl, and beating your friend and colleagues gives you bragging rights, etc...

However, my MAIN point is.............do these people care about the Cinderella's? I just think it's laughable that they want all the BIG teams to win, just because they have them on their $5 brackets. Is it really worth it? Gimme the drama and stunners anyday!

Maybe it's just me.......it's just my opinion, obviously. But they are sweating out 2vs15 game when many big-time gamblers in this country have thousands riding on the game.
Just my perspective.
Like I said...too each his/her own. But I just can NEVER go back to brackets. That is just me personally.

taker...i disagree.
for those of us who make a good portion of their yearly salaries on sports wagering.......the word "fun" does not come into play. We can care less about "beating people on equal footing" and that is NOWHERE as sweet as winning a wager.
However, it all depends on one's lifestyle's.
Again, too each his own.
I'm just talking about my personal habits.

I think nothing of dropping a nickle or so on an off night, but I still like to jump into a bracket pool or two. But damn it, you had better not be be the clerk who over charges me $1.95 at Sears, and I'll still drive past 5 gas stations to find the lowest price. Am I nuts ? Probably so.
