Memphis vs Northeastern
NE is coming off that Vermont drubbing where Coppenrath had 37 pts and dominated in the paint.NE has one of the top gds in the east coast in Barea who ranks 4th in assits and 8th in the nation in scoring.Barnes his sidekick can shoot the 3 and these 2 gds rank No2 in the nation in scoring combo.Freshman Shawn Jones at 6'9 ranks 2nd in the nation in blocked shots.
NE can score but there problem is defense and rebounding. They rank almost last in the Am.East conf in defense and dead last in rebounding and reb margin.
Well you better lookout because in comes Memphis with a frontline of Erwin,Dorsey,Williams and Barclay. There all 6'9,6'9,6'9 and 6'8.Then there is 1st team all conf Carney at 6'7 and some big gds in Rice, etc.Freshman superstar Washington who missed those FT's vs Louisville can flat out play.
Memphis is much more athletic and much quicker. They should control the bds from the opening tap.NE's other big man is a 6'9 soph Davis. So there two inside players vs the Tigers are a frosh and a soph.NE doesn't have much depth there.
Vermont who is much slower then NE ran and fast breaked vs them.Memphis has all "greyhounds" and should run NE out of the fed-x center.
Plus Barea rolled his ankle in the Vermont game and did not play most of the 2nd half. He's problay not 100%.But even if he was he would be in trouble.Barea and Barnes are small gds going against Tigers gds that are 6'2,6'6 and 6'4.
Bad matchup problems esp inside for NE.
Now the mental status of memphis could be there demise. After that heartbreaker they could be still in stupor. But knowing Calipari his team should come out smoking.
