Do you realize you have a team that has played 2 games..(Witchata State and St Joes) playing teams that have only played 1 game in this tourny (Vandy and Holy Cross)
One team hasnt played a game in over a week

No one is at these games, look at the crowd on these on TV.

Why do they continue this Tournament? Please dont say tradition or money cause how much of either can be out there for this ridiculusness.
There can never be another CCNY with someone winning the NIT and NCAA so just stop this thing
I like having another game to bet on believe me, but who else gives a rats butt about this thing

Someone please explain why this NIT still exists.

It sales out every year in new york so something is right with it, check your att some of the games have good size crowds for home teams. same or more then they draw in reg season and if they get 2nd home game even bigger crowd. it is not going away and it makes money every year.

Fletcher I geuss I will defer to you on this
Indiana and Missuri are the games I saw plenty of people posing as seats.
I geuss if you are from Fullerton or something but I can promise G town and St Joes will have less than capacity in there games/

How do you explain a team playing 1 game playing a team team playing 2 games meeting???
Whats that all about?
Like I said, I'm all for another game to bet on

They expanded the field to 40 teams from 32 so the bottom 16 seeds play in the first round. Personally I like the tournament it gives teams chances to play in a postseason tournament. I am glad to see teams like Davidson get a chance to take down some bigger teams and get a chance in a tourney after getting upset in conference tourneys.

IU's student body was on spring break, therefore causing the empty seats....do you really think any basketball game in Indiana would have empty seats if there wasnt reason....not to mention the pride of the state Hoosier.

The NIT is here to stay & I for one enjoy the tourney & it gives smaller teams that dont win the conference to play "bigger" schools.

logically hokie.....you are dead right

logically hokie.....you are dead right

BUT.......its simply a reason for a party and to maybe have a lil fun, make a lil money for the schools & it gives a chance for the seniors that want to, play one more time & maybe visit new york city.......a tournament like the NIT would only ever exist in a country like America......could you imagine explaining the NIT tourny to a foriegner.....lol.....i dont know why i like the NIT , but i do......call me a dumb american. I also believe the NIT will get the axe , sooner or later....good luck with your wagers......bish

Seeds? Gimme a break. They dont seed the teams or you wuld have a real hard time explaining the matchups and who plays at home. It is set up to try and max attendance and get the 4 teams they want in New York. Of course, Mizzou and Indy already blew it for them.

Thanks all for your responses in this thread..
Cant believe so many people like this tournament..

Let me respond..
Why have a game in Indiana IF every in Bloomington is on Spring Break??? Surely, some people are left there and can come to a game.. but they didnt..

It gives small schools a chance to play a bunch of pissed off Big schools who dont give a hoot about playing in this tournament??
Schedule them in the regular season BU, Davidson, etc.. go on the road and play Maryland when it matters... Seemed to pay off for Oakland, Mich. who scheduled like an anti K state football schedule and they went dancing.

How can Holy Cross play one game and St Joes have played 2 ?? and you want me to take this seriously?? Holy Cross "seeded" higher than St Joes??? oy vay...

The NIT is as relevant as the old
Super Bowl winner playing a college all star team .. That used to happen my very young friends at Mad Jacks.. any one remember that???
It should just fade into the same category as the Bluebonnet Bowl and (sadly) the NHL and WHA (brass bonanza anyone?)

Thanks for every ones input but I still want an answer as to why we still have this appendix(the one in your stomach.. ie unneeded) of college basketball

A bigger problem to me is the joke of the NCAA tournament letting teams essentially play home games. With the dollars and fan interest there is just no excuse for doing this as it slants the competiton. It is absurd how there is a regional or subregional in Carolina almost every year, but of course not in Durham or Chapel Hill so it can be called "neutral." Look at Wake - not only did the 3rd place team in the conference take their one seed, but alos the spot in Charlotte. Illinois shouldnt be in Chicago. Folks complaining about UL's 4 seed forget that it most probably happened so the pairing would work so they could play in Nashville.

Michigan State was almost handed the title in 2000 this way. Syracuse got their title getting to play the regional pretty much at home. That is not to take away fromt hese teams. but this just shouldnt happen.

I was attending college at Wyoming in "86"..... the Fennis Dembo led cowboys went on to the final game in NYC for the NIT. This tourney set the stage for the Cowboys going to the NCAA's the next 2 years so I know for a fact young teams on the rise love this tourney........they have a good chance for some extra practice time and games against decent competition.

Sun that is my biggest pet peeve with this whole thing..

Every year Duke plays somewhere in North Carolina...
What a ridiculous joke
illinois in Chicago???? stop it
It probobly didnt hurt OSU to be playing in Oklahoma City either..

I know the rule on this but it just isnt fair...

It is almost as bad as the woman who actually get to play AT HOME for 2 rounds ( stop this nonesense)

But its all about money so all my bitching aint gonna change anything

It is CBS wanting to ensure better ratings by improving chances to get who they want. Do you really believe some of these pairings just happen to come up - like Cincy-Ky or NCST-Charl or even Syr-Vermont?

Problem is these sites arent uniform. They dont have Phoenix out west all the time for Arizona, it is Tucson where they cant play. Chicago was not set up for Illini of course as selected awhile back, but it was set up for a home for a Big 11 team. And of course Illinois has already played several games there this year. SOme of these site choices are so odd at first until you realize the real purpose.

Nit sucks. Local papers in this town had maybe a half-page article when DePaul was in the NIT. Of course they were ousted. It doesn't bother me that teams get to play close to home. I mean if you are seeded either 1-2, you should get rewarded for that. Wouldn't make much sense to me by throwing Illinois in the West regional or Washington in the East regional.

Missouri had 6000 fans for their home game against DePaul. Everything was general admission. $10 for non students and $5 for students.

st joes is selling out there nit games, believe both have been sold out. funny how most of the better teams in the nit were "the last 16 teams in and have to play an extra game". i highly doubt temple was one of the top 32 teams and were better than st joes and buffalo and other teams that were in the play-in games. st joes is motivated and will continue to win. they'll beat holy cross tonight by 7.

wrong nit was the big show before the ncaa , and hokie i think I know the big east much better then you since i have had family ties since the start of the conf. i seen wvu in nit 3 times in early 80's late 70's and when they lost in championship games they sold out, and gtown and st.johns don't draw great crowds anyway. st.johns use to but arena was not the biggest either when lou was coach. trust me it sales and lot of schools first round are on spring break 2nd round it picks up and so on, also they try to set it up so the home teams will draw the big crowd no seeds all about hoping home team will make good sales, and theyy have no problem getting advertising in the garden and corps. pay a nice price for it, and why do you think pre season nit was made because it makes money, nit is a committe and a business who is out to make money and they do. I would ot mind being on their payroll ,I know someone who is in marketing for them and she draws one hell of big pay for the year, and she has been with them 7 years. say what you want till you know don't stick your foot in your mouth. about the money and amount of seats sold hell unlv sold more for their game then anyone game this year. It is about money can't you read.

Calm down Fletcher - from your tone it sounds like you were on the wrong side of a few games this weekend. Also, before you blast someone regarding whether or not they can read, you might want to check out your own grammatical skills - is that English you're typing?
