They want to go against federal guidelines and ban their police force from immigration enforcement then whine about their crime statistics---
"In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens"

---and now their medical situation--Wonder if they'll ever admit to being wrong--nah--its the PC thing to do--You'd think Boxer would have enough probs at home to fix----:)

L.A. Emergency Rooms Full of Illegal Immigrants

Friday, March 18, 2005

LOS ANGELES ? This is part three of a five-part series looking at how illegal immigration affects U.S. border security, the criminal, health care and education systems, as well as the economy. Watch the series this week on FOX News Channel.

Overburdened by the uninsured and overwhelmed by illegal immigration (search), public health care in Los Angeles is on life support.

Sixty percent of the county's uninsured patients are not U.S. citizens. More than half are here illegally. About 2 million undocumented aliens in Los Angeles County alone are crowding emergency rooms because they can't afford to see a doctor.

According to the State Association of Hospitals (search), California's public health system is "on the brink of collapse." In Los Angeles County, patients can wait four days for a hospital bed and up to two years for gallbladder surgery.

"The hospitals are closing because of the totality of the uninsured," said Dr. Thomas Garthwaite, director of the Los Angeles County Health Department (search). "If you're legally a resident in California and you're poor, you have a right to basic services."

But some critics say the taxpayers can't be the HMO (search) to the world. Last year, Los Angeles County spent $340 million to treat the uninsured; that's roughly $1,000 for every taxpayer.

"We're citizens here. Why should somebody from another country that's here illegally get anything that we can't get? I mean that's dumb, that's not right," said Don Schenck, whose son, Bill, is mentally disabled.

Though the Schencks are uninsured, and considered poor by county standards, his father had to find a way to pay for his Bill's care while thousands of others, in the country illegally, get it for free.

"It makes you feel pretty bad when you're born in that country and you're handicapped and you've got a learning disability and you can't get medical," Schenck said.

Mike Antonovich, the Los Angeles County supervisor, said the system has been "basically bankrupted."

The Department of Health has a $1.2 billion deficit. Caring for illegals is siphoning money from other services and forcing clinics, trauma centers and emergency rooms to close, he said.

"We cannot afford to have a open-door policy to encourage illegals to continue to come here and receive all the medical care, because it's too expensive," he said.

Immigrants like Yolanda Hernandez, however, argue that if there were cheap insurance plans available to her community, people would buy them.

"[Americans] have enough money to pay for insurance," she said. "They make good money and are educated. Unfortunately, we are not."

I see Fox is now doing what Lou Dobbs has been on for over a year. I just hope Fox points out the way both parties are a joke regarding this topic, and don't just harp against one side.

immigrants provide cheap labor....are paid under the table much of the time.....the burden falls on the taxpayer..to provide services...while getting little in return......

business owners love it....while your average citizen gets boned....

The Republicans own everything now. Anything wrong and the finger can only be pointed at them. I would love to see them do something about illegal aliens but the rich and mighty like to hire them to do cheap labor.

has nothing to do with the cheap labor

has everything to do with an up for grabs constituency

democrats do everything to pander to blacks and will always try to keep them down and feed them the victim mentality

republicans now are pandering to the hispanics by doing nothing about the border and pandering to illegal aliens much like liberals do so that they can get their vote

both political parties make me sick

the constituency issue is valid....but the burden on the taxpayers in parts of california and other states and subdivisions is also real....

for god`s sake...it`s illegal...craft a guest worker program....but shut down the borders....

this is insane...

and now cali. is becoming a haven for vicious, brutal south american gangs that are coming in illegally....

california is a mess...

arnold may be a caricature, but gray davis was a disaster...a horrible excuse for leadership...

and bush?....he`s pathetic on the border issue...he pandered to the hispanics in texas when he was governor.....

of course,if he didn`t,he may not be siiting in the white house......

i really think that it will take another massive terrorist attack to get these professional politicians off their asses on this issue....

and that seems inevitable...

I could not have said that any better.

Call me a centrist or whatever, I have always voted for the best person regardless of party lines.

It's hard to find a quality candidate anymore as everyone seems to be bought by special interest groups.

And if watching the shananigans on capital hill isn't enough, try living in Kansas. Our state legislature is busy with evolution and gay marriage issues while educational funding takes a back seat. The Supreme court of Kansas had to step in to order the legislature to do something about the budget before they breached state laws.

Oh yea, we also have an attorney general who wants to make certain medical records open to the public.

I'm done ranting for the day.

Wake up America!

"and don't just harp against one side."

I'm harping on LA officials that make these stupid rules--and if the shoe fits--wear it.

Live with convictions but don't whine about it after the fact.

On illegals in general neither side will do squat--its political suicide especially for the GOP since the Dems have garnered 90% of the other minority vote and trying to get the felons included as well.

"I would love to see them do something about illegal aliens but the rich and mighty like to hire them to do cheap labor"

If we didn't pay more for a person to sit home-spitting out illegitamate kids than work at minimum wage job--we'd probably have 2% unemployment or less--1 million more tax payors--and a hell of a lot less expenditure in welfare programs.

---also saw where gas has hit $3 a gal in CA. Hmm filled up last night for $1.99 myself. Wonder if their having highest state taxes in continental U.S. has anything to do with it.

Next time you see Boxer dissing someone or "trying" to make it look like she has a clue on anything, consider what she has done for her home state.

DTB...actually gas is about 2.38 to 2.55 out here...
the $3.00/gal price is in areas (Hollywood) where
the rich and famous feel that paying a "normal"
price is wwwwaaaaayyyyyyyy beneath their social
status..... :mj07:

By the way...Boxer and the liberals are the ones
that put so many restrictions on refinery's in this
state that they are shutting down and any time
there is a shortage of fuel cali gets hit 5X worse...
You will see gas hit 3.00/gal this summer in cali...
No other refinery's can import fuel to cali because
of the restrictions...plus they conviently shut down
to convert to winter fuel in PEAK SEASON.....
might even hit 3.25 this year...all of these patents
that were bought up by the BIG THREE and the
MAJOR OIL COMPANIES for the last 30 years to
get 5X better gas mileage and alternative fuels...
WE BETTER WAKE UP....IRAQ, IRAN, ETC. wil
OWN USA...Do you want cleaner air when you
wake up tomorrow or do you want some militant
raghead holding a knife to your throat on national
TV.... :sadwave:

Are these the 2 choices? You said yourself the big 3 bought the patents which can allow us essentially to enjoy clean air AND non knive attacks by "ragheads".

For christ's sake, we are bitching about gas prices THAT ARE NOT HIGH. We've been spoiled with cheap gas and as a result purchased 10mpg SUV's and now find that we are in a bind - especially when combined with average personal earnings that have not kept up with inflation for the past 5 years.

Hell yes we need clean air. The geography of Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley is what has dictated the need for emission and refinery controls, not "Liberals".

GOD DAMNIT - can we get bast the bullsh1t partisanship for once???!!! Even Alaska is only a temporary unknown solution. We continue to ignore the global demands from China and India and can't seem to graps the potential consumption of the 2 BILLION PEOPLE there. We are talking about a population 7 X as big as ours that is just beginning to modernize. Think about it. Oil as we know it is just not going to be cheap anymore.

I was talking about the likely approach Fox will take. I'm sure they'll spend plenty of time on how the Left has mis-managed this issue, pandering for minority votes, etc. But they better as hell give equal time to the Right Wing which has encouraged illegal immigration YES - FOR CHEAP LABOR - and now also to keep up with the pandering as well - all the while making empty statements about our security.

Lou Dobb's program gives a fair and balanced look at this issue. Both sides are blamed equally.

I would say there are few media that come down any harder on this administration than Fox,especially Oreilly, on pandering to illegals. In fact have not heard one person come to their defence and justifiably so_On last Oreilly show he torched Bush advisor on issue of cutting 2,000 border patrol to 250--and hit very hard on issue "in respectable way" in interview with Bush prior to election.

Smurph Why is you-MC--Micheal Moore and liberal media in general have to use the half quote--partial quote or omit key words in quotes to try and make a point--seriously??? What is it with these liberal distortions of quotes.

Do you think your omitting "on pandering to illegals" doesn't change the entire complexion of statement.

per my statement on Oreilly interview with Bush

O'REILLY: A "Time" magazine investigation says, 3 million illegal aliens crossed the Mexican border, and we talked about this four and a half years...

BUSH: We have. I know it's a issue that you're concerned about.

O'REILLY: Every year, 3.5 million illegals come over. Why can't the federal government control that?

BUSH: Well, as you know, as the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue. There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop the process of...

O'REILLY: With all due respect, though, it's not working, with 3 million...

BUSH: It's working a little better. They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. But I was trying to get my words here for a minute. I was trying to give you some facts. I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border, we're modernizing border techniques, we're using better surveillance methods to stop crossing at the border. Now, look, people are coming up because they want to work. You know, family values don't stop at the border.

O'REILLY: Absolutely,

BUSH: If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico, and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks, and they're poor.

O'REILLY: Ninety percent of them are, but 10 percent are bad guys.

BUSH: Well, look...

O'REILLY: A lot of bad guys coming here.

BUSH: I don't know how you got the 10 percent number, maybe...

O'REILLY: The border patrol you know, incarceration, violent crime, that...

BUSH: No question about it. It is a serious issue. I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary worker cards available for people. And I think it's best for the employers who are employing these people. I think it's best for the employees that are trying to find work. I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA (search)...

O'REILLY: We'll be in the grave.

BUSH: I don't think so. It's happening. Look, I wish I could have taken you down there and shown you the northern tier of states in Mexico ten years ago compared to today. I mean, it's happening.

Free trade helps lift lives, free trade develops commerce, free trade gives people a chance to realize their dreams. And so long as the wage differential is as big as it is, and so long as moms and dads feel the necessity to feed their children, they're going to come and try to make a living.

O'REILLY: So you're not going to militarize the border to stop...

BUSH: No, we're going to use the border patrol, beef it up, give it better technologies and better equipment to do its job.

O'REILLY: OK. You know a lot of people are not going to like that answer, you know that.

BUSH: Well it's a truthful answer.

O'REILLY: OK.

BUSH: I mean, as opposed as to what, putting a military on the border,

O'REILLY: Yes, [use the] military to back up the border patrol, to just stop the, rampant...

BUSH: No, I think the best way to do it is to give the border patrol the assets it needs to do its job.

DTB-- that is a perfect example of misquoting someone to try to make them look unknowledgable. You couldn't have compared it to anything better than their hero, Michael Moore.

I learned it from Manson, dude! Seriously, I couldn't get past the first part of it. I didn't realize what I edited til now.

I apologize. Here's the full quote.

I must still disagree and offer a laugh icon.... :mj07:

Fox just started this little crusade after the election. It was an issue they most certainly avoided prior. And they still miss what is really the big issue. They are more about the cheap labor than vote pandering.

Someone above mentioned the Dem's and the blacks. If history is right the blacks were dragged here with many dieing before they even made it. And dem's and reb's and everyone else did that. This open border problem where we look the other way is nuts. And anyone who wants health care can get it. Just go to the hospital they can't turn you away. They might keep your house if you don't pay so sell it first.
