OAKLAND (Harden) -115 over LA ANGELS (Washburn) 4*

look for the Athletics to rebound from last night's
loss with a solid win against a not very imposing Jarrod
Washburn (4.76 ERA). Oakland sizzled against lefthanded
starters at home last year (20-6, +$1010 with 5.6 runs per
game) while the Angels were stuggling against righthanders
in all settings (-$1090). Rich Harden looked very sharp in his
only outing of the year (1.69 ERA) so the short price on the
home team looks very imviting.

BEGINNING MONDAY APRIL 18

Florida at Washington (2) 18th, 19th

The Marlins were only 17-23 (-$825 vs. lefties in night games last year, averaging 3.8 runs per game). The Washington starters should do no worse than a profitable split. PREFFERED: Nationals in both games.

N.Y. Mets at Philadelphia (2) 18th, 19th

Can?t trust the Mets on the road at night (-$865 in ?04) but have no confidence in the Phillies (-$1045 at home in ?04). PREFFERED: None.

St. Louis at Pittsburgh (2) 18th, 19th

The Cards kills the Bucs in head to head play last year (+$420) and we like Mulder?s chances against a team that struggles against southpaws (-$755 last season). PREFFERED: Mulder.

Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati (2) 18th, 19th

The all-righty rotation is good news for the Reds (+$835 in that spot in home night games). Eric Milton will be tough for Chicago to beat (Cubs 3-7, -$570 vs. lefties on the road at night). PREFFERED: Milton.

L.A. Dodgers at Milwaukee (2) 18th, 19th

The Brewers were terrible in day games at Miller Park (9-20, -$1270) while the Dodgers posted a 15-9 (+$700) mark in road day games. We?ll play this accordingly. PREFFERED: Dodgers in day games.

Atlanta at Houston (2) 18th, 19th

The Braves went 14-3 vs. lefties on the road at night last year (+$1275) but Pettitte is doubtful to take a turn in this series. We won?t take the Astros either (-$750 at home in 2005). PREFFERED: None.

Arizona at Colorado (2) 18th, 19th

The Rockies topped the D?Backs in last year?s battle for the NL West basement (13-+6, +$815 in head to head play), and they were 15-7 (+$875) at home vs. lefthanders. PREFFERED: Rockies vs. Estes.

San Francisco at San Diego (2) 18th, 19th

The Padres won 12 of 19 in 2005 (+$645) and they look tougher this year on paper. But the ?04 numbers (SD -$1185 at home, SF+$1215 on the road) lead us to the visitor. PREFFERED: Giants in both games.

Toronto at Boston (2) 18th, 19th

The Red Sox figure to miss the Toronto lefties, so they?ll be able to tee of on the righthanders (+$1365 vs. righties at Fenway last year, Blue Jays -$1565 on the road). PREFFERED: Red Sox vs. righthanders.

Detroit at Baltimore (2) 18th, 19th

The Orioles were lousy at Camden Yards last year (-$1140) but only use the Tigers vs. righthanders (+$1025 as a visitor in that spot in 2004). PREFFERED: Tigers vs. righthanders.

Tampa Bay at N.Y. Yankees (2) 18th, 19th

The Rays might get a shot at Randy Johnson, and it they do it will be at a huge price. They did well vs. lefties on the road in ?04 (+$630 at night) so we?ll take the plunge as long as TB starts a righthander (NY -$1375 in that spot in ?04). PREFFERED: Righthander vs. Johnson.

Minnesota at Chicago W. Sox (2) 18th, 19th

The Twins are a good road team (+$1180), but Santana won?t start, and since the Sox are solid vs. righties , we?ll pass. PREFFERED: None.

Oakland at Texas (2) 18th, 19th

Great home team (Rangers +$1945) vs. a bad road team (A?s -$1045) makes this an easy call. PREFFERED: Rangers in both games.

Cleveland at Kansas City (2) 18th, 19th

The Tribe beats righthanders (+$1335) but not lefties (-$1175), while the Royals are just the opposite (+$720 vs. lefties, -$3460 vs. righties). Play these accordingly. PREFFERED: Indians when righty meets righty/Royals when lefty meets lefty.

Seattle at L.A. Angels (2) 18th, 19th

Expect the Mariners to start righthanders in this series (Angels -$1090 in that situation) but it?s too early to trust Seattle as a visitor (-$2325 in 2004). PREFFERED: None.

BEGINNING WEDNESDAY APRIL 20

Atlanta at Washington (2) 20th, 21st

These teams met at Turner Field last week so check those results. Atlanta was 15-4 vs. this team in head to head play (+$800) and has an excellent shot for a sweep. PREFFERED: Braves in both games.

Colorado at Philadelphia (2) 20th, 21st

We?ll try the visitor if Randy Wolf or any other lefty is on the hill for the home team (Rockies +$1150 vs. southpaws). The Phillies lost money at home in ?04 (-$1045). PREFFERED: Rockies vs. lefthanders.

N.Y. Mets at Florida (2) 20th, 21st

Quick turnaround after playing a 3 games set at Shea over the weekend. Don?t trust the Marlins at home just yet. PREFFERED: None.

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati (2) 20th, 21st

The Pirates were a weak road team last year (-$685) and we love the Reds vs. righthanders here at Great American Ballpark (+$760 in 2005, 2-0, +$235 so far this year). PREFFERED: Reds vs. righthanders.

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis (2) 20th, 21st

The Cubs (+$500 on the road vs. righties) probably will face a pair of righties in this series, and should no worse than a split vs. a St. Louis team that hasn?t gotten on track. PREFFERED: Cubs in both games.

Milwaukee at Houston (2) 20th, 21st

The Brewers were only 16-36 (-$1515) on the road in night games last year, but the Astros were lousy at home (-$750) and will be overpriced in any event. PREFFERED: None.

L.A. Dodgers at San Diego (2) 20th, 21st

The Dodgers will be up against an all-righty rotation (+$2145 vs. righties in 2004) and are a bargain here vs. a San Diego team that lost money at Petco Park (-$1185). PREFFERED: Dodgers in both games.

Arizona at San Francisco (2) 20th, 21st

Take the Diamondbacks at the fat price whenever they start a righthander (SF -$1025 vs. righties at home last year), but pass if they start a lefthander. PREFFERED: Righthanders vs. the Giants.

Boston at Baltimore (2) 20th, 21st

The Orioles got the best of the Sox in head to head play last year (10-9, +$650) but they were generally awful at home (-$1140) and the Red Sox lost money on the road (-$1180). PREFFERED: None.

Chicago W. Sox at Detroit (2) 20th, 21st

Both teams are tough on righties (Sox +$1725, Tigers +$745) but weak vs. lefties (Chicago -$2030, Detroit -$1430). Play this one accordingly. PREFFERED: Lefthanders vs. righthanders.

N.Y. Yankees at Toronto (2) 20th, 21st

We?ve got no confidence in Toronto, but the Yankees did make money

vs. lefties in ?04 (+$475 on the road, +$1580 overall) and we?ll get value with them as visitors. PREFERRED: Yankees vs. lefthanders.

Texas at Tampa Bay (2) 20th, 21st

The Rangers look like a solid play anytime Tampa Bay starts a lefthander (Texas +$1035 on the road vs. southpaws). PREFERRED: Rangers vs. Hendrickson and Kazmir.

Kansas City at Minnesota (2) 20th, 21st

It won?t be cheap, but a righty vs. righty matchup at night is tailor made for the Twins (25-11, +$1500 vs. righties at home . . . KC -$3460 overall). PREFFERED: Twins when righty meets righty at night.

Cleveland at L.A. Angels (2) 20th, 21st

The Indians made money off this team last year (+$335) and are a great value in this one (Tribe +$635 on the road. Angels -$1010 in 2004). PREFERRED: Indians in both games.

Oakland at Seattle (2) 20th, 21st

We?d like to try our luck with Barry Zito (Mariners 9-18, -$1005 vs. lefties at Safeco), but the Athletics have been too unreliable away from the Coliseum to trust this early in the season. PREFERRED: None.

Giants (J Schmidt) vs Rockies (J Kennedy)
08:05 pm
Giants -160 upgrade to 5* :mj14:

Same old story for the pitching deprived Rockies, who wrapped up the first week of the new season with a massive 9.53 ERA. They were manhandled by the Giants at SBC Park last weekend (-$300) and things could get ugly here at Coors Field when the Giants start a righthander (Rockies -$1325 in that situation last year). The Giants were big moneymakers on the road last year (+$1215) and there's no one presently in the Colorado rotation that concerns us very much. BEST BET: Righthanders vs. the Rockies.

Schmidt - 50-21 TSR as a favorite of -125 to -175 since 1997
Kennedy - Colorado 34-81 as an underdog of +125 to +175 over the last 3 seasons
