I see some places on the internet offering player vs player backgammon for money? I was never under the impression that backgammon was a big money game. Am I missing something or are these sites destined to fail miserably? I kinda get it when chess players play each other for money, but backgammon? Is there a strategy to this game other than hoping for a good roll of the dice?

Backgammon for money, I don't get it, but I must be missing something, right?

penguin fan, take a look at gamesgrid if you want to play backgammon.

not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but i don't even play backgammon but know they are the leader.

HOWEVER, and jack, sorry if this is inappropriate, but check out their new poker site. I'm fairly certain I remember you play poker. I play 35 hours on-line each week, so I am pretty versed in internet poker. I think this site will take off. Pay careful attention to their 5k bonus and frequent player points where they pay you 12 dollars an hour per table to play. The bonus is a bitch to clear but do-able. The FPP program is unheard of in the industry. Doubt it will last as they are doing it to get players, but those in early will reap the benefits. No I'm not a schill, but just amazed at how they are starting off and the lengths that they are going to be a competitive site. Unfortunately so far, the limits are really small at 6/12 and below, but in the future better games will hopefully pop up.

Which brings me to the point of backgammon that this site is number one for that and has a great track record. Everyone has been paid and your money safe.

Once again Jack, feel free to dump this if you think it's inappropriate.

Also as to your other point, backgammon is a HUGE money game. Plenty of the high roller poker players play it. Gus Hansen used to be in the top 3 or 4 in the world. Look around at all the big poker tournaments, you will see high stakes side action in backgammon.

I thought it was just rolling dice to, but apparently there is a ridiculous amount of strategy.

I honestly was not being sarcastic, I just do get that there is strategy to backgammon, at least not enough to warrent it as a money game.
Your right, I play poker on-line quite a bit. I have no intention of learning "competitive" backgammon, just seemed odd when I got an e-mail from a poker site that was going to offer it in the near future.

Backgammon, not checkers Schouest.

It only turns into checkers when the kids steal the dice...and I dont want to talk about checkers...

I have an 11 yr old that never moves his "back row" ...and it pisses me off !!
