Just to enlighten some of you about what is going on with Iraq. The situation over there is not even close as too what is portrayed on t.v. The violence is starting to esculate because the insurrgents are losing ground. Yes they are losing ground. Don't get me wrong it is going to get worse before it gets better but lets all hope this ends soon even though I see us there for years to come I hope I am wrong.

At the same time progress is being made at the sacrifice of many Americans but many more Iraqi's. Thses people want democracy and most are willing to pay the price as did our forfathers. The surrounding countries are the ones who fear democracy not the Iraqi's. The people of Iraq have been supressed for many years and now are starting to see what freedom actually means. So no matter what your ploitical views are on the war or Iraq, support those who are giving there sacrifices for others. Many families have suffered on both sides of this and all the support is needed from fellow Americans to let them know there sacrifices have not gone unnoticed. The same goes for all veterans let them know you care.

I will be writing while in Baghdad and asking that care packages be sent to me in care of others. Many have had wifes leave them, girlfriends and so on. Some have very few family members left and anything would bring a smile to those who are there and are not as fortunate as others. Also send hard candy for the Iraqi kids they tell us what roads we should not travel that day and so forth. I will make sure those who get something will write in return and youd be surpised how much they would enjoy that.

Thank you all at MJ'S.

First off NTI, thank you for your sacrifice for the
good of this country and Iraq...
Secondly, this post must really piss off the Bush
haters in the Politics and Religion Forum...
Gardenweasel said it best, there are people in
that forum who hate Bush more than al-quida.
They would love to see us fail in Iraq so Bush
looks bad. Every day of bad news from Iraq is a
good day for these haters. They must cringe
when something positive like this is posted.
NTI...stay safe...

Hoorah! I had a feeling the hearts were being won there. Hopefully a strong democratic tradition can be established in that unstable region.

Thanks for your service, neverteaseit. Stay safe over there and let us know where to send the care packages and candy. As you mentioned, i'm sure that many marriages are falling apart and many of the guys could use some support, in whatever form. When I was in Korea, where you couldn't bring a spouse on your tour, one marriage after another was destroyed and those guys just felt helpless because they couldn't come back to try to salvage it. It was very sad and i'm sure it's 10x worse when you have the stress of combat and you get those papers.

Salty Dog, you're an idiot.

Kosar I know vietnam was different and so was korea but most of these guys are in their 30's or older and thier wifes have left them or cleaned out the bank account. Now I am not saying all are doing this but when this ends the numbers on families that where torn apart by this war will be astounding. I see it everyday and these guys are losing focus on the task at hand and worrying about what is going on at home and you can talk and talk and talk too them and it doesn't matter. I for one am single so this I have not had to deal with I only miss my children, family and friends. I have finally gotten to see them for the first time since sept of 04.
But it is truly sad to watch it and know what they are going thru and really don't have an answer for it.

Thanks all much appreciated

No, man. I wasn't in the Korean war. I was in the army in Korea for 18 months in 93-94. I was trying to say the exact same thing that you mentioned. Guys getting cleaned out and divorced while helplessly serving overseas. And I was just adding that it has to be that much worse while having to deal with combat. Like you said, losing focus..etc.

No I undertsand your reply. what I was referring to was mostly vietnam as having the draft in effect and it was mostly younger kids there. Not sure about korean war. But yes it happens to military personnel all the time. I wonder if someone will do a study on this after this has come to an end. Because I am telling the numbers will be astounding. I have a guy I met who was afghanistan was married for 26 years he is 45 and while away wife cleaned out account, house and was gone when he came home. left him for his best friend. wow. thanks buddy. and from what he was saying not really much he could do for the time being. This is where the courts need to step in and put a foot down for these soldiers.

Yeah, exactly. It's terrible. Seriously, while I was there, I would estimate that 30% at least, of the marriages fell apart. And that's not including the ones which fell apart shortly after they got home. And like you said, there's nothing they can/could do.
