Ok I have had cable road runner internet since last summer and i did work fine for a while.

But for the last 2 months the son of a biitch goes off when I am in the middle of something, usually playing poker, it has cost me money.

Well anyways my cable company has switched out my box 3 different times and I am still tonite have this frekking problem again. Is this chit normal or should I switch away from the cable company to ameritech or satellite. Just looking for input real tired of paying $45 bucks a month that cuts u off at the most awful times.

I've had cable for five years and have only lost service twice. Both incidents were related to lightning striking a transformer. Other than that, never had a problem.

Thanks guys that is interesting cause the cable light connection blinks out on me on a regular basis here. They have came out and checked it out and always say it is the receiver box and switch it out and usually a couple days later it starts the chit again. I am gonna have to get away from my cable company then. I can try SBC here in my area, thanks for the help guys, brighthouse cable sucks

I had a problem with my cable modem, and it took them a few times out to get it fixed. They finally had to run a new drop from the pole to my house and "boost" the signal as well. Mine would go out during the heat of the day. Something about it expanding??? No problems now except when they decide to do service and not notify the customers!!! :(

thanks 65, maybe I will get them to check the line out, cause I don't think it is the receivers, had too many different ones. The funny thing all the receivers i use when the cable light goes out, i just unplug it and let it sit for 30 secs or so and plug it back in and usually within 2 mins i will be back on, but unfortunately that will cost u a fortune in a poker hand, which it has done to me. Hell dialup never cost me a poker hand LOL!!

I've had RR for about 5 years and have had very few problems. They did have to switch the modem once, but the last time during some bad weather, it screwed up the splitter on the outside of the house. Replaced it and have had no problems since. They told me there were a bunch of people that had service problems during that storm, and I would have to wait six days. Went Radio Shack, bought one myself, and fixed it in about 2 minutes.

CG....had some problems here and there. One time they said there was water in the lines or something of that sort. Haven't had any problems lately with roadrunner

Also, you might have too much static building up in the modem?? Could be the case if it works after you reboot it like you said above.

Not sure....I'm pretty much computer illiterate. I just know they told me that one time when I had a problem. They basically said that static will build up and by unplugging it and letting it sit for a little while that it clears it up. Not sure how to fix it, except maybe try moving the location of the modem?? Not sure, but know it speeds up your connection if you reboot it as well.

According to what you're describing and the fact you replaced your modem 3 times, its definitely the cable line. Either inside from the jack to the modem or the line coming to the house.

Had the same problem, it was the line from the house. High speed needs to be a direct line. Regular TV doesnt need to have a 'clean' cable line as does Highspeed.

After I replace 3 modems, I told the cable company to come fix it or take the box and shove it. They fixed it and replace the outside line to the house. It took 3-4 months to bury the cable line.

$45 per month is a lot, time to start demanding resolution count, I thought you knew better than that! :)

Good luck

They didn't run a new line they cut into the old cable line coming into the house since it was already in the attic, which I put up new siding on the house a couple yrs back. I don't even use cable, I have satellite here, so I kinda leaning towards it is the line also.

Hey Tom. Think I was the one that recommended Road Runner that day on the phone.

Never had any problems! Once someone hit a pole and lost power, but that's been it.

Good luck on whatever you do!!!!

ps: You got mail!!! :D
