Happy May 2-4!

Fletcher - Victoria Day, more commonly known these days as "May 2-4", is simply the birthday of Queen Victoria. It's always held on the Monday in May immediately before the 24th, if the 24th itself does not fall on a Monday. At one point in time this was considered our national holiday, but over the years it's importance has diminished a bit (most people aren't overly sentimental about the royal family anymore), and Canada Day on July 1st has now taken over the title of national holiday. Nowadays it's viewed more as the official start of summer... just an excuse for a day off, to light fireworks, celebrate that summer is almost here, and to drink 24-packs of beer. :)

I guess these days you could consider this a Canadian substitute for Memorial Day, since it's always about a week earlier, and we don't celebrate that one here.

Thanks Gregg for the link, have had quite a few friends go there and said they had a great time, great music, unreal food and really not much trouble, have been to fantasy fest many times, and mardi grau twice and they have also and said the jazz fest is by far the best.

GM thanks for explaing because I thought july 1st was your big day
