Fellas. I am going to create a charity. Not the type of bogus charity that most charities are, but something actually different. I am a minority graduate student and I work part time at a strength and conditioning facility training athletes from age 12 to college age. Most of our kids are white and their parents have the $$ to afford to send them here. I mean if you ask me the camps arent expensive but to an underpriveleged child/student an extra 170.00 per month is alot they can't afford.
I want my charity to assist underpriveleged kids/athletes and give them the opportunity to attend speed/athletic training camps. Get these high school athletes scholarships get them to college (parents wouldnt be able to afford college otherwise) etc.
How in the heck would I do this
I dont even have a name yet.
Thanks in Advance

This is a very time-intensive process. You will need legal and financial assistance if you have not done this before. You may be able to find a local lawyer and CPA to help you with this process if they believe in your idea.

Here is an organization that I was a founding member of for testicular cancer research: www.friends4cures.com.

So I guess my advice is to speak with someone locally who has experience in setting up an organization that meets the requirements described in section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

You will need this status to make donation tax-deductible.
