Summer Vacation Deals

I want to take a vacation with the wife this summer but don't travel by way of planes too much. Does anyone have any suggestion in terms of deals and bargains? When, where, and how best to buy airline tickets? I'm interested in a trip to Hawaii. Have never been there... Like to know where to stay and what to activities to do while there, etc...

just got back from Hawaii and it was great...went to the island of Oahu and spent a week in Honolulu (Waikiki Beach)...some good deals out there, i stayed at Ohana West, which was a block away from the beach...you can search ohanahotels for site...

Hawaii is a great choice. I recently returned from a 10-day stay at Maui and Hawaii (the big Island).

Da Insider is correct about 1 thing....the Ohana West hotel is a block from the beach, but that's about all. Waikii Beach is overrun with Japanese tourists and teeming with tee shirt shops, etc. Traffic is horrible and the prices are outrages. Honolulu was once a great spot, but has gone down the tubes in recent years.

I would suggest Maui. There is nightlife and plenty of things to do. Lahaina is an interesting fishing village, Whalers Village has things going all the time and if you play golf, you can try any of the courses at Kapaula or Kaanapale.

My favorite is the big island....it's more laid back and serene with golf courses galore along the Kona Coast.
