I went to the Chiropractor in 2003 for 5 months. He was an acquaintance, and I was actually his first patient when he opened his practice.

I paid my insurance copay with each visit. I discovered that my insurance, however would NOT cover heat, ice, or estim. I told my chiropractor that, and he told me no problem, he would write it off.

He was working for a coorporation, and his relationship with the "boss" became tenuous, and he quit.

Now, today, 2 YEARS LATER, I get a bill for 550 bucks :cursin: :cursin: :scared :scared It's hard to understand, but I'm quite sure it's for the heat, ice, and estim treatments.

My thought is this. I'M NOT PAYING THIS BILL!!!! What options do I have besides calling the office and talking to some peon who won't believe me when I say my friend the chiropractor said I didn't owe for the heat/ice/estim?? How can they wait 2 frikkin' years and OUT OF THE BLUE send me a bill like that???

Ideas and advice are welcome. What kind of a leg do I have to stand on?

Thanks!

Clint I thik word has gotten around on how well you came out on car :)

I would send them letter and tell them Chio that did work for you agreed to except assignment and write off unapproved charges.I would also ask why they send you bill 2 years later when Doc is gone. I am not sure what or if time limit is on office/patient but believe time limit of defence on office/insurance company is 18 months.

That is lenth of time providers can can go back and file charges with Ins co. Often the time limit is waived if there is reason.

It is pretty obvious what this provider did.Your doc writes off unapproved charges--Doc leaves--they audit his patient accounts and try to recover write offs.

This occurs frequently. Have many insureds that have charges brought back years later after being written off. Sometimes after writng off 2nd time will bring them back again later. Sometimes triggered by new computer systems or software.
Bring me copy of bill they sent you and I'll see what I can get done for you.
