Latest odds on the 2008 U.S. Presidential Elections: ---------------------------------------------------- Hilary Clinton 6-1 Rudy Giuliani 10-1 Condoleezza Rice 15-1 John Edwards 15-1 John McCain 20-1 Bill Richardson 25-1 Tom Vilsack 25-1 Barack Obama 30-1 Colin Powell 30-1 Bill Owens 30-1 Tom Ridge 30-1 Jeb Bush 35-1 George Pataki 35-1 Arnold Schwarzenegger 50-1 Bill Clinton 200-1 Bill O'Reilly 750-1 Michael Moore 5000-1

I think McCain has some value at this point, as I cannot see the Republicans putting forth another religious right-wing wack job like George Bush and actually winning. I would be surprised if Giuliani runs, and Rice would be a tough sell in certain strongholds of the GOP. Powell in my opinion is done with politics, and Ridge and Jeb will be aligned with the current administration which will be a hinderance for them. On the left no one looks that good to me as McCain, but I think Richardson is a pretty good leader and is a moderate, and VIlsack seems like a pretty good leader. Edwards has no shot, as he will be linked to Kerry. More than likely it's Hillary's nomination to lose and while I don't think she would be quite as bad as out current administration she still leaves alot to be desired. So it looks like in 2008 we will be back to where we have been for the past 8 years with limited options on out choices, and no new fresh ideas.

Someone thats not on the list will show by then. And may even have some fresh ideas. And might be a honest person still.
At this time Mc Cain wins from that list. I agree 15 to 1 is good play.

mc,

are these the only candidates ?

my two favorite politicans are mccain & giuliani...

i agree with you that mccain is at a good price. but don't think that the republican machinery will support mccain, who is viewed as a maverick.

giuliani has two things against him.....he's italian & he is pro- choice.....so i also don't think the republican machinery will support him.

i still think george allen has a shot for the republican nomination (don't know if i would support him).

i do think bill richardson is an interesting candidate...but he is a memeber of a minority race (don't know which one though) & don't think he will do will nationally.

rice is not a politican, female, & is black..so she has no chance to win natinally.

obama....not experienced enough.

who is vilsack ?

Excellent thread! Who made the odds? A woman ? Yes - A black ? Yes - A black woman ? No. She's one of the most qualified in the bunch. Bush is her anchor.

I actually got these odds from a sportsbook that does not advertise here, so I dont want to plug them.

I think DJV is right someone will come out of the blue, and make a strong run! I would not bank on Allen, as he is another far right wing and I think after four more years of this wack pack the public is not going to be in the mood to have another 4 years of a Bush clone.

Rudy is a fighter and I would not underestimate him, but I was reading online and his new wife wants to stay out of the limelight and the article suggested Rudi has some skeletons in his closet that could damage him to the extreme far right. I agree with you, I have always thought Rudi to be a solid guy.

Richardson is Hispanic, at least I beleive so.

Vilisack is the Gov. of Iowa.

One guy not on here that is suppose to be a centerist is Mark Warner. Another is Bill Frist, but I think his voting record could be really used to hamstring him nationally.

Dan

I agree that Rice would struggle and the Bush legacy would weigh her down, as I am sure you know historically after the second year the lame duck usually loses power and many members of the party try to distance themselves.

although the hispanic vote is getting stronger in this country, there are too many people who are fed up with the illegal immigration situation who will not vote for richardson because he is hispanic. justified or not, people will think ricardson will be too lenient to that problem.

bill frist is viewed as a weak leader of the senate so i don't think he will get any consideration.maybe as a vp candidate.

we are starting to see some rumblings from bayh...all of a sudden he is starting to be very vocal in his criticism of bush...he is somebody that i will watch because he doesn't always follow party lines & i like that in a politican...the only problem, at this point that i see with him is that he pretty bland....but a strong point about him, i think from a democratic point is that he is from the midwest...& cannot be tagged as a northestern liberal like hilliary.

who is mark warner ?

Perhaps I have his first name wrong, but he is the Gov. Of Virginia and has been known to cross party lines in order to get problems solved. I will have to check into Bayh, I don't know much about him. I agree with you on Frist, and I think McCain would tear him up in the Primaries. It should be interesting with Howard Dean controlling the Dem's, although I dont always agree with his takes, I do think he will stand toe to toe woth anyone and will tell it like it is. I am still wondering how Jesse Ventura will fare in the race, he is another guy that pretty much will tell both the Reps and Dems where to go.
