I know it's been mentioned here before, who's been there and can give some recomendations? Thinking of going in September this year. Ok place to bring the kids? I really have no idea. Where would you stay, what would you absolutly not miss, what would you not do? Any help is appreciated!

I went last May and I did not like it. Now my opinion is just my opinion as some of the people that were on the same trip loved it. The workers at the resort were rude and the size of the room was not worth the money. We stayed at a Sandals resort and that is what I am comparing it to. The workers at the Sandals resort were so friendly and helpful. As far as beauty, the Atlantis is the way to go. It also has a casino which is a big plus for me. I remember watching my wife play blackjack and I was standing behind her when a cocktail waitress came by and I ordered my wife a drink. (I already had one) She said "Have to be playing." I said "I know. It is for her." She said, "She can't order it herself?" I then got angry as it seemed it had been like this all week. I said "How about you just do your job and bring her a drink!" When she came back she walked up behind me and told me to move. She then had the nerve to stand there and wait for a tip. I just looked at her and laughed. Now having said that, there where some good things. Not all of the workers were like this, only a few. They had a sportsbook, and I made a bet the day before I left and forgot to cash in my ticket. It only took about 10 days to get my money after I mailed it in. I thought this was done in a timely manner. The sportsbook is not bad and is bigger than some in Vegas. The aquarium is amazing. The water slides are fun, and the food is good. Pricey but good. That is why I enjoy all-inclusive. I know you probably still pay for it, but I like to not worry about it. Anyway I am rambling now but like I said I am sure there will be some come on here and tell you it was the most amazing experience they ever had. I am just telling you my side. I will never go back unless it was free. Oh and one more thing, the room I was in was about a mile from the casino. Most of the rooms are on one end of the facility and the casino is on the other end. If I remember anything else, good or bad I will chime in again.

agree with chickenman to some extent----i was there 3 yrs ago and although it a neat place , i didn't think it was all that it was cut out to be---service is slow but it's that way throughout the bahamas, part of their lifestyle,lol---it's very expensive and when we checked out there was another 100.00 added to rm from mini bar which wasn't used at all----when i had them investigate they said oops those charges were from previous guest in that room--
what a scam---there were some others in our party who had this happen to them also-----now to the good stuff, water facilities are great for the whole family, our room overlooked a pool of sharks which was really cool, watched them feeding in the am was wild, beaches are beautifull and water is great, casino is best in the bahamas although the sportsbook wasn't finished yet when i was there----would never go back unless it was paid for ---which this trip was----good luck with whatever you decide

If you're flipping a coin....I hope it comes up Hawaii!!

My views are similar to those already stated, so I won't belabor the point. I find Hawaii a much better overall experience...even if you take the kids.

Took my girfriend to Hawai last month. It was the first time for her and she is still raving to anyone who'll listen about the trip.

Good Luck on your choice.

If this is the same Atlantis you are referring to (if not, forget my post)....

I went to Nassau a year ago. We stopped by Atlantis. It has some nice rays and sharks in tanks here and there. A nice stretch of beach. The whole bar in a pool thing. You can do all these things while you STAY somewhere else and stop by Atlantis. Took a flight home and talked to a higher end gentleman on the plane. He came with his family and had nothing but negative things to say about Atlantis. They have a ton of restaurants, none of which you can eat at unless you get reservations far in advance. I got the image it was a total tourist trap. It seems every place has one of these. Seem to be a place to avoid. From what I understand from the natives, Atlantis is expanding greatly across the island through a 5 stage program that will take many years. The hotel we stayed at was part of this project and was soon to be torn down and consumed. Also, I didn't like any of the help at the casino. I do add a little gambling to my over all vacation when I go. The girlfriend never gambles and enjoys it a bit. I really like betting games and playing cards with my friends. The only thing that I may do in a casino is hit the blackjack table for a bit.

Atlantis is my favorite resort. I've heard some people say some pretty bad things about the waitstaff and the prices, but I've never had a problem with either. Think it's fairly inexpensive for what you get.

If the kids are younger, though, the pace of service may not be accomodating. My sister and her husband have been down there with kids and without, and they have a much better time without because when their kids want something, it's got to be delivered NOW!!!

Pools are great. Lots of hired girlfriends to oogle at. Restaurants are all excellent (but do have to be booked in advance). Ocean is gorgeous.

You can find a nice resort anywhere, but Atlantis is an experience you won't find anywhere else.

If you start leaning away from Hawaii and start leaning back to paradise, get my email from Jack

if you are taking the kids this suggestion should be disregarded, but if it is just you and the wife, scrape up the $$$, and instead of staying at the Atlantis, stay at The Ocean Club. It's 5 minutes away from the Atlantis, so you can get there easily for dinners and gambling, but it is a world of difference. Not over-run with people like the Atlantis. It is a luxury vacation that you and the wife will NEVER forget. If you get a suite, IT COMES WITH YOUR OWN BUTLER !!! A pillow menu (I'm not kidding--3 different choices), Godiva chocolates on the bed each night when the room is made up; anything you want (food and drink-wise) on their own private beach---they'll even turn the lounges for you when the sun shifts. I could go on and on. It is NOT cheap, but it is absolutely one of the most memorable vacations you will EVER spend.

P.S.--if you do end up going to the Atlantis, whatever you do, do NOT go during a school vacation week. The place is even more over-run with people and in addition to having to wait on mega-lines for everything, you will NEVER be able to get a lounge-chair near any of the pools.

im only 24 years old. i was at atlantis in 2002 july with 4 friends. had an ok time. i defentely wouldnt recommend it. im not sure what youre going for or why, but the only thing i found fun was the ocean. the casino was alright. wasnt that big and its pretty expensive all around there. i did not hit any restaurants so i cant talk about the food quality. we mostly ate bar food and sandwiches. what annoyed me the most was (and its probably everywhere there, not just atlantis) were the locals. they bug and annoy the chit out of you everytime you turn around. if they arent asking you for taxi rides, they are buggin your GF to go for a jet ski ride or a hair braid.

the ocean was fun, the weather was beautiful. it was an experience, would i go back? NO!

Congrats on the 10 year mark!! I have been to both places a few times and I enjoy both. For an anniversary and w/being from the East as well I'd go to Hawaii to mark an anniversary and Atlantis for a quick get away...

I can see both sides of this. I've been there twice and have alternately thought is was unbelieveable and overpriced with bad/lazy service. But 'lazy' service should be expected in the Bahamas. And like someone above said, if you venture away from the site, you will be bombarded with people accosting you to buy their goods/services, including weed(maybe a good thing for penguin fan..lol). But again, that's
not unique to the Atlantis.

The water slides are fun. The aquarium is fantastic. The casino is fine. Beach and water are fabulous. Food is fine.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, the only thing that Atlantis has over Hawaii, (from what i've heard, as i've never been there) would be the fact that you don't have to kill yourselves to get there.

Make sure catch a Braves game or 2...good tickets always available these days...

Hawks aren't much of a draw, so you can sit on the court if you bring a couple of canned goods.

Hope you enjoy your trip !!! :) :)
